On Friday, September 23rd, Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District swore in the newest member of the District’s Board of Supervisors. Amber Humphrey joins the Board as the Supervisor for District 3, which covers the Grand Marais area. Supervisor Humphrey fills the position previously occupied by long-serving Supervisor Joan Farnam, who resigned from her position at the Board meeting on September 1st.
The SWCD Board of Supervisors plays an important role in addressing a wide variety of resource management issues aimed at protecting and improving water quality, properly managing wetlands, and preventing soil erosion. SWCDs are local units of government and supervisors are elected to four-year terms. Supervisor Humphrey was appointed on September 1st by a unanimous vote of the Board. She will complete Supervisor Farnam’s term, which runs through 2024.
