Despite being the higher seed, Cook County Senior Legion baseball team fell to Nashwauk- Keewatin 7-3 in the first round of the American Legion baseball playoffs.
The game was played in Ely on Friday, July 19.
Adam Dorr was the losing pitcher. Adam pitched two and two thirds innings, giving up five runs off of eight hits. Tristen Bockovich relieved Adam and allowed two runs off of two hits.
Jager Nash took the win for Nashwauk. He pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and three earned runs over seven innings.
Nashwauk led 2-0 after the first inning, tacking on a run in the second inning and two more in the third and added two more in the seventh to cement their win.
Cook County Senior Legion scored one in the second, two in the third, and was held scoreless the rest of the way.
Jacob Dorr singled on a line drive to center field to bring in Kole Anderson for the team’s first run in the second inning.
In the bottom of the third Isaiah Deschampe singled on a hard grounder to the shortstop and brought in Joe Deschampe. Earlier in the inning Andrew Miller scored on a wild pitch, but that was it for the Cook County offense.
With the win, Nashwauk will now go into double-elimination while Cook County Senior Legion was ousted from the state-qualifying tournament with the first round loss.
Tristen Bockovich led the team in batting by going 2-3 from the plate. Andrew Miller, Joe Deschampe, Ero Wallin, Isaiah Deschampe, and Jacob Dorr all got one hit for the team.
Cook County recorded four errors while Nashwauk played error-free ball.
Damon Gangl was 3-4 at the plate to lead Nashwauk, who collected 10 hits in the contest.
Last year Cook County Senior Legion qualified and played in the state tournament after winning the regional tournament.
