The Cook County/ Silver Bay Senior Legion baseball team played a double header against the Cherry Tigers Senior Legion team on Thursday, July 7, with each team winning one game.
Game 1
Patrick Pierre doubled in his first at-bat, scoring one run for the Vikings in the first inning against Cherry in a game played in Cherry on Thursday, July 7.
However, despite hitting the ball well, the Vikings had a tough time scoring runs.
The Vikings would hold a one-to-nothing lead until the bottom of the third. Then, Cherry scored four runs in the third and would win 5-3 despite the Vikings outhitting the Tigers 9-8.
Jacob Carpenter started on the mound for the Vikings and took the loss. Jacob threw six innings. He gave up five runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out six.
Sam Serna was the winning pitcher. The Tiger pitcher threw a complete game, allowing three runs and nine hits while striking out six.
Patrick Pierre went three for three at the plate to lead the Viking’s offense. Benelli Myers and Lucas Stadler each had two hits in the game. Jake Stadler and Jacob Carpenter were the only other Vikings to get a hit in the game.
Mason Hertzman led the Cherry Tiger batters with two hits.
The Vikings had chances. Neither team scored in the second, but with one out Lucas Stadler reached first and stole second in the third inning. Hunter Gomez was out in his at-bat, but Patrick Pierre reached first on a single. Meanwhile, Lucas stole third. The speedy Amos Falter came in to run for Pierre. With Tate Crawford at-bat Falter stole second. Unfortunately, Crawford was called out on strikes, and the inning ended.
Game 2
Neither team scored in the first inning, but six runs in the second by the CC/SB Seniorr Legion team would be all of the runs they needed in the six-to-one win.
Jake Stadler had an excellent outing on the mound. Jake pitched six innings. He allowed one run while giving up four hits, striking out three and walking one. Patrick Pierre came in from the bullpen to throw one inning of relief. Patrick struck out two and gave up one hit.
Beau Barry was the losing pitcher. Beau pitched 1.2 innings, allowing six runs and three hits while walking four and striking out four.
The Viking’s big inning started with a single to right field by Hunter Gomez.
Gomez advanced to second on a wild pitch to Patrick Pierre, who was walked on four straight balls. Amos Falter struck out looking, which brought up Hunter Rex. Gomez took third on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch as Rex was walked. The bases were loaded when Benelli Myers was walked after fouling off three straight pitches.
Tate Crawford was up next. Tate was called out on strikes with the bases full. Jake Stadler’s turn at-bat ended with a walk, bringing in Patrick Pierre. Jacob Carpenter followed with a single to the shortstop, which scored Hunter Rex.
With Lucas Stadler at the plate, Myers took advantage of a wild pitch and stole home. Stadler followed by sharply singling a line drive to left field, which drove in Jake Stadler and Jacob Carpenter. Gomez, who started the big inning at-bat, was up next. The center fielder caught Hunter’s fly ball to end the inning.
Jacob Carpenter led the Vikings with two hits. Jacob Carpenter and Hunter Gomez were the only other Vikings to get a hit in the game.
Cherry played error-free ball, and the Vikings only had one error in the game.
