The summer Senior Legion baseball season has begun and so too, the annual gathering of players from Cook County and Silver Bay who join forces to make up one team. This year’s squad began with an 18-5 win over the Barnum Bomber team.
The game was played at home on June 15.
Jacob Dorr took the win for the Vikings. Jacob pitched five innings, allowing five runs on five hits. The lanky right-hander struck out nine and walked four.
Patrick Pierre drove in three RBIs to lead the Viking offense. The Vikings ended with 11 hits. DJ Seidel had two hits, Tate Crawford one, Lucas Stadler three, Jacob Dorr one, Jake Stadler one, Ryan Bilben one, and Amos Falter one.
The Vikings scored six runs in the first, two in the second and ten runs in the third to blow the game wide open. The game ended in the fifth inning because of the ten-run rule.
Junior Legion team takes victory over Aurora
Playing at home, the Junior Legion team defeated Aurora 7-4 on Wednesday, June 15.
Cy Oberholzer was the winning pitcher. Cy went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Cy walked six and struck out three.
The Vikings started out hot, scoring four runs in the first to none for Aurora. Neither team scored in the second and while Aurora put up two in the third, the Vikings countered with three in the third. Aurora managed two more runs in the sixth, but the Vikings held on to win 7-4.
Braylan Hoff, the team’s designated hitter, lead the offense by going two for four with four RBIs. Amos Falter, who played right field, was two for four. Jacob Stadler, shortstop, was one for three while second baseman Hunter Gomez was two for four. Ray Dressley, first base, scored one run while Jacob Carpenter, left fielder, was one for three. Tucker Cook, Catcher, was one for three and Benelli Myers, third base, walked and scored a run. Paul Dorr, who played center field, was one for three.
The Vikings ended with three errors to one for Aurora. Each team finished with seven strike outs. In the most telling statistic of all, the Vikings collected nine hits to three for Aurora.
