Cook County/Silver Bay ousted from playoffs



It was win or go home for the Cook County/Silver Bay Senior Babe Ruth team in their Saturday, August 8, match against Eveleth. The game was played in Aurora.

Both teams were in the final four District Senior Babe Ruth playoffs after advancing through the semi’s.

Eveleth led 1-0 after the first inning when they scored on a Braiden Lind single coming off a 1-2 count with Andrew Miller on the mound for CC/SB.

Neither team put any points on the board in the second inning and each side added one run in the third to make it 2-1 in favor of Eveleth.

A two-run fourth inning pushed Eveleth’s advantage to three runs as once again, CC/SB was held scoreless.

The CC/SB batters finally figured out Eveleth starter Andrew Hakly in the top of the fifth and CC/ SB scored two runs, chasing Hakly from the mound.

Eveleth scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3. Neither team scored in the sixth and a late run in the seventh for CC/SB left the boys one run short in a 5-4 loss.

Hakly, who was credited with the win, was replaced by Bobby Lind, who got the save for Eveleth. He pitched two and a third innings, giving up three hits and one run while striking out one.

Andrew Miller took the loss for CC/SB. Andrew pitched three innings, allowing two runs off of four hits and walking one.

Patrick Pierre pitched three innings in relief of Miller. Patrick gave up four hits and three runs and didn’t give up a walk.

Ero Wallin led CC/SB at the plate by getting three hits in four at-bats. Ero finished with three RBI’s. DJ Seidel, Lucas Stadler and Isaiah Deschampe also had one hit for CC/SB.

Braiden Lind and Andrew Terrel each had two hits for Eveleth, who finished with eight hits in the game.

Eveleth had one error in the field while CC/SB ended with three errors.
