Cook County Senior Legion loses, then beats I-Falls



With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning Joe Deschampe singled sharply to center field, driving in Andrew Miller. That run brought the score to 15-2 over International Falls, and the lead would hold through the fifth inning when the game was called because of the 10-run rule.

The game was played July 2 at Arleigh Jorgenson field in Grand Marais.

Adam Dorr took the win for the Vikings. Dorr pitched four innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out two batters and didn’t give up a walk.

Tristen Bockovich got the Vikings off to the races with a single on a 3-1 count that drove in two runs. The Vikings tallied seven runs in that big first inning, one run in the third and added seven more in the fourth.

Andrew Miller started on the mound. He pitched one inning, allowing one hit while giving up no runs and no walks.

Saari was the losing pitcher for International Falls. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up seven runs on three hits.

Collecting multiple hits for the Vikings was Joe Deschampe, Andrew Miller, Tristan Bockovich and Lucas Stadler. Bringing in RBI’s were Stadler 2, Miller 2, Bockovich 2, Deschampe 1, Vaughn Swindelhurst 1, Tate Crawford 1, and DJ Seidel 1.

Stadler, Bockovich, Miller, Vaughn Swindelhurst and Paul Dorr each had stolen bases in the game.

Cook County Sr. Legion players didn’t commit any errors, and Joe Deschampe made the most fielding plays with eight.

Legion falls 2-0

Strong pitching by both teams allowed for few runs in the first game of a double-header played on July 2 against International Falls.

Tristen Bockovich took the mound for Cook County Sr. Legion and pitched six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight while allowing six hits and two runs.

Hubert pitched five and two-thirds innings for International Falls. He didn’t allow a hit and struck out ten.

on to beat Eveleth 9-7

After three innings the score was knotted at three all but three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth innings gave the Cook County Senior Legion team a cushion they needed to hold off Eveleth and escape from Eveleth with a 9-7 win.

The Vikings first run in the fourth came off of a balk by the Eveleth pitcher Brandon Lind, which allowed DJ Seidel to score to make it 4-3. Joe Deshampe tripled on a line drive to left field, which brought in Andrew Miller. Isaiah Deschampe followed Joe’s smash with one of his own, pounding a double to right field, which scored Joe.

In the fifth inning Cook County Senior Legion added one run on an RBI single by Andrew Miller, which scored DJ Seidel. Isaiah Decshampe reached on an error by first baseman Brandon Lind, which scored Jacob Dorr to make it 8-3. Adam Dorr was hit by a pitch which allowed Riley Tarver to score, which made it 9-3.

But Eveleth’s bats were just getting warmed up. Eveleth added two runs of its own in the fifth to make the score 9-5 and kept the pressure on by scoring two more in the sixth to make the score 9-7. But that was it for the Golden Bears and Cook County Senior Legion took its second consecutive win.

Adam Dorr was the winning pitcher. Adam allowed 13 hits and seven runs over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one batter.

Isaiah Deschampe had a big day for Cook County Senior Legion. He drove in the first run of the game on a ground out sacrifice, which scored Riley Tarver. He stole home in the top of the third to make 3-1. His double in the fourth gave him two RBI’s and he was 1-3 from the plate with a hit and a walk.

Andrew Miller was 1-3 with two walks and scored twice, Joe Deschampe was 1-5, Riley Tarver was 1-3 and DJ Seidel was 1-3.

Eveleth recorded 13 hits in the game. Kyle Kvitek was 3-4 and drove in two runs for the Eveleth legion team.
