Cook County residents might be eligible for single-family housing loans and grants




The USDA Rural Development agency in Virginia, Minnesota is now accepting applications from individuals who wish to purchase a home or make repairs to their existing home.

Home purchase loans are available to low-income families who wish to buy homes located in rural communities with a population of 20,000 or less. Loans may be made for up to 100 percent of the appraised value of the home with no down payment required. Mortgages are typically for a 33-year term and approval is based on household income and monthly debt obligation. Applications must have a good credit history and show repayment ability.

Home repair loans and or/grants are for very low income households that already own their home and need assistance paying for repairs. Loans are at an interest rate of 1 percent with a maximum repayment period of 20 years. Applicants must meet income and credit guidelines. Grants are available to remove health and safety concerns and are limited to applicants who are 62 years of age or older.
