Cook County representatives were among the more than 1,000 delegates attending the Minnesota State Democratic- Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) Convention held June 2-3, 2012 in Rochester, Minnesota. Mary Ann Atwood chaired the local delegation, which included Pat Campanaro, Larry Caven, Frank and Barb Dvorak, Denny FitzPatrick, Anton Moody, and Stan Tull.

Delegates endorsed incumbent Amy Klobuchar for United States Senate. The convention also passed 85 platform resolutions, including formal positions opposing the two proposed state constitutional amendments that they believe would limit voter access and restrict marriage equality. In addition, the delegates adopted resolutions supporting clean air and water, universal single-payer health care, sustainable agriculture, and women’s reproductive rights. Several of the resolutions evolved directly from Cook County DFL input.

Denny FitzPatrick is the first Cook County DFLer elected as a delegate to a Democratic national convention. He and 105 other Minnesota delegates will attend this year’s convention in Charlotte, North Carolina September 4-7. To help defray the costs of his trip, the Cook County DFL has set up a special fundraiser account at North Shore Federal Credit Union. The account is called “Send Denny to Charlotte.”
