Despite a recent minor baby boom, Cook County, apparently, has nearly achieved zero population growth.
Cook County’s population was estimated at 5,219 in 2015, with the average household containing a shade over two people.
On August 9, Cook County Commissioners received the preliminary 2015 population and household estimates that were prepared by the Minnesota State Demographic Center.
The city of Grand Marais was estimated to have 1,370 people living in 691 households, which averaged 1.92 people per household.
Lutsen Township’s population of 417 lived in 214 households, which came out to 1.95 people per dwelling.
Schroeder Township’s population was put at 207 with 101 households and 2.05 people per household.
Tofte Township had 251 people living in 139 houses or apartments, which came out to 1.81 folks per housing unit.
The population of the unorganized territory of Cook County was estimated at 2,974. At 2,996 people living in 1,407 residences, it had the largest number of people per household at 2.11, leaving the total per household countywide average at 2.03 people per dwelling. Or just a shade above zero population growth, which might be due to that minor baby boom.
