Would you like to listen to the newspaper rather than read it? You now have the option of listening to the news on your smartphone or computer with podcasts. You can listen to the news and take care of other things at the same time.
CEO Matt Larson of Our-Hometown Inc., a web development company that works to build digital newspapers for the News Herald and many other newspapers across the country, says that podcasts for newspapers are gaining popularity.
Similar to news radio, a prominent feature of newspaper podcasts is that you can listen to them at any time. If you have a smart phone, the newspaper’s content will be presented as a playlist in a podcast app on Google, Spotify, Buzzsprout, and Apple.
Around the globe, more and more newspapers have turned to podcasts to help get the news out to their customers. Nationally each week, 60 percent of the country listens to an audio broadcast. During the COVID-19 pandemic, audio audiences have grown by 50 percent, with podcasts representing 19 percent of the digital purchases.
Cook County News- Herald online subscribers who want to listen on their computer can also go to cookcountynews herald.com and find the audio on our website. Let us know if you enjoy these audio reports or not. Send an email to ccnh@boreal.org if you want to comment on this new audio feature.
