Cook County lodging taxes up for 2016




From 2010 through 2015 lodging taxes in Cook County rose every year. That trend will undoubtedly continue based on the first 10 months of collections for 2016.

Through October, the last date the figures are available, Cook County Auditor/Treasurer Braidy Powers said the county had collected $1,037,348.35, not far from the 2015, 12-month tally of $1,069,719.65.

In 2010 the county took in $815,897.68 and the proceeds have gone up roughly $50,000 per year.

For the first 10 months, the Lutsen/Tofte/ Tourism Association (LTTA) has taken in $649,980.48, up 5.6 percent over last year.

Using that same January to October trend, the Grand Marais Area Tourism Association is up 5.3 percent with $261,138.24 in collections and the Gunflint Trail Association is also up 5.3 percent with $126,229.63 reported.
