County-wide lodging taxes are down 6.3 percent when compared to the first two months of 2022, and no doubt our winter weather had a big part in those numbers.
The Lutsen-Tofte Tourism Association brought in lodging taxes of $138,914.12 for January and February in 2023, about $20,000 less than 2022 for the same months, a 7.3 percent decline in revenue.
With $28,011.32 collected for the year’s first two months, Grand Marais Tourism Association was down 12.7 percent from 2022.
A bright spot in the County Auditor’s lodging tax report was the Gunflint Trail Tourism Association’s numbers. When year-to-date apples-to-apples are compared, the GTA is up 9.4 percent in 2023 for January and February over 2022. As a result, the GTA lodging taxes added up to $24,537.06.
