Tourism continues to be the engine that drives Cook County’s economy.
The Cook County year-to-date lodging taxes are up a whopping 30.6 percent compared to the first ten months of 2020.
Through October 31, 2021, the county has collected $1,617,420.97. Collections for the full twelve months last year were $1,268,436.04.
The Lutsen-Tofte Tourism Association brought in $1,039,082.34 for the first ten months of 2021 compared to $932,960.73 for all of 2020. That’s a 30.8 percent increase, although lodging taxes were down about $10,000 this October compared to October 2020.
Year-to-date apples-to-apples comparisons of the Grand Marais Area Tourism Association shows a 38.5 percent growth rate over 2020. So far $382,803,65 has been taken in versus $321,068.69 for 2020.
The Gunflint Trail Association has collected $195,534.98 through October 2021. Total 2020 collections were $190,186.07. The Gunflint Trail is up 12.4 percent over last year.
