Beautiful weather helped attract visitors to the area this past fall, and Cook County’s lodging sales tax collections reflect that.
A strong summer led to a strong fall for Cook County lodging establishments.
The Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association (LTTA) generated
$84,902.32 in lodging taxes this September versus $75,238.83 in September 2014. LTTA was up 5.8 percent for the month.
Grand Marais Area Tourism Association (GMATA) brought in $42,377.41, an increase of 11.5 percent over 2014. Meanwhile the Gunflint Trail Association (GTA) collected $15,073.10 versus $13,812.03 last September.
For the first nine months the LTTA showed a 7.5 percent increase, similarly GMATA was up 13.2 percent and the GTTA was up 5.4 percent.
Cook County’s 1 percent local option sales tax has brought in $1,136,780.30 for the first nine months, up 7.8 percent from 2014. The 1 percent sales tax has been used to fund improvements to the Grand Marias Public Library, the Birch Grove Community Center, the hockey rink in Grand Marais and was used to build the YMCA.
