There was some entertaining American Legion baseball played on the Arleigh Jorgenson field on Friday, July 12 with the contest between the combined Silver Bay/ Cook County players versus a team from Nashwauk Keewatin, with Cook County Senior Legion falling 7-4.
The boys from the North Shore fell behind early, as Nashwauk scored three runs in the first and two runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead going into the third inning. Nashwauk took advantage of walks, some timely hits and wild pitches to score early in the game.
Early action
The Vikings managed to score one run in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh inning, but Nashwauk added one in the fourth and tacked on one more run in the seventh to keep a safe lead throughout.
The Vikings were held to five hits, two of which came off of the bat of Isaiah Deschampe who went 2-4 at the plate. Joe Deschampe was 1-2 with a walk, Kole Anderson 1-3 with a walk and an RBI, and Jacob Dorr 1-1. Adam Dorr was 0-2, but he walked in both of his appearances at the plate. Timmy Perfetto walked in his only two appearances and stole base twice. Andrew Miller walked twice and stole one base. Tate Crawford walked in his only appearance and scored a run.
Perfetto, Adam Dorr and Kole Anderson also scored one run each for the team.
Timmy Perfetto took the loss for Cook County Senior Legion. Perfetto pitched four innings, giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking five. Tate Crawford who threw for one inning relieved him and then Kole Anderson finished the game.
The wining pitcher for Nashwauk was John Nash. Nash threw four and a third innings. He gave up two runs while striking out six and allowing three hits.
Both teams had two errors in the game.
Nashwauk collected nine hits, with Spencer Engel, Jake LeDoux, and Casey Clusiau each getting two hits in the game.
