Monday, March 7
7:33 a.m., Grand Portage: Twovehicle accident on Upper Road
when the plow driver clearing the
Community Center parking lot
didn’t see an oncoming car, and the
road was too icy for the driver to
stop. The car was damaged, but there
were no injuries reported.
3:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Local
business reported a shoplifting
incident that happened on Friday,
and they had surveillance footage
of it. The woman, 42, returned to
the store at 5:04 p.m. Monday and
was again seen putting something
into her bag. A deputy went to the
woman’s residence and cited her for
shoplifting.
8:27 p.m., Lutsen: A woman who
reported the theft of a watch and
ring valued at $7,000 called back an
hour later and said she found the
items in her jacket pocket.
Tuesday, March 8
6:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer
struck by a vehicle near the rock cut.
The vehicle had to be towed.
6:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that a group of about 10
kids (7th to 9th graders) was walking
down Second Avenue West near
the school, and some of them were
smoking. A deputy checked the
group, but the only two who were
smoking were over 18.
6:56 p.m., Colvill: Two people
reported that a vehicle sped up and
intentionally ran over a Pomeranian
that ran out of a residence and onto
the highway.
10:06 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy
was called to check on the lights at
the hockey rink, which were on until
3 a.m. the previous night, and still
on tonight. The switchbox is inside
the warming house, so he could
not get in. The Community Center
director was notified.
Wednesday, March 9
2:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Credit card
scam reported.
4:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Two deer
struck near Thomsonite. One was
killed and the other injured. The
vehicle was damaged as well. Nearby,
there were two other dead deer in
the ditch that had been struck by a
semi just a bit ago.
4:39 p.m., Lutsen: Deer struck on the
highway near Lockport.
6:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
was concerned a residence he was
watching in the owner’s absence had
been broken into because there were
footsteps in the snow and the door
was standing open. It turned out to
be the fuel delivery person.
Thursday, March 10
12:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Garage
collapsed on the Cutoff Road.
8:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a water problem in an apartment
building was due to frozen pipes.
PUC notified.
9:12 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller
reported that she heard yelling on
Townsite Road, and said it was
disturbing her kids.
Friday, March 11
7:53 a.m., Grand Portage: A window
was broken in the Bay Estates
apartment building. The housing
director said no charges will be
pressed.
10:30 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller
said he suspected drug activity due
to frequent traffic in the area after 8
p.m.
1:30 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called
to the ski hill for a boy, 14, with a
possible concussion and hip injury.
4:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that his soon-to-be ex-wife
stole some stuff out of his cabin on
Bearskin.
6:15 p.m., Lutsen: Lutsen Fire
Department called to a chimney fire
on West Highway 61.
6:41 p.m., Lutsen: Search & Rescue
and deputies were called out to look
for a 10-year-old boy who got lost
while skiing on the Onion River
trails. He was found before the
rescue units arrived.
10:48 p.m., Grand Marais: The front
door to Steve’s Sports was found
unlocked. The owners were notified.
Saturday, March 12
7:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that $1,000 was missing
from his bedroom, and he thinks
his friend took it but she said he
lost it. The caller said he drinks
and his friend is mad at him
because of that, but he’s mad at her
because his money is missing. A
deputy determined that it was a
misunderstanding.
10:56 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy
requested to remove an unwanted
person from a residence.
11:22 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance
requested at the ski hill for a boy, 14,
with a lower back and hip injury.
1:17 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called
to the ski hill for a man, 26, with
chest pain and shortness of breath.
No injury involved.
1:36 p.m., Grand Marais: A man
went into a local business and asked
for the money containers belonging
to Animal Advocates. When the
employee said she didn’t have them,
the man told her she had 48 hours
to get them; she told him not to
threaten her. A deputy spoke with
the involved parties.
10:26 p.m., Lutsen: Duluth man,
41, cited for a small amount of
marijuana.
10:54 p.m., Lutsen: Thunder Bay
man, 27, cited for possession of a
small amount of marijuana.
Sunday, March 13
6:15 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said
there was an intoxicated woman
driving around with two minors in
the car.
8:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
he was afraid for his life because
there is a woman in his apartment,
and she has a key, and he wants it
back. A deputy spoke with both of
them, and the key was returned.
8:20 a.m., Lutsen: A car spun
out into a snowbank at the park
entrance, causing a traffic hazard.
9:07 a.m., Tofte: A transformer blew
on Good Neighbor Hill, causing a
power outage.
11:01 a.m., Tofte: Injured and still
alive deer in the ditch.
12:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder
Bay man, 34, cited for speeding.
12:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Duluth
woman, 56, cited for speeding.
3:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
requested to take a woman to detox.
