Monday, June 29

12:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Lutsen man, 43, cited for speeding and no proof of insurance.

6:16 a.m., Hovland: Power line down across a driveway.

7:02 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of license plate tabs from a truck.

8:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller expressed concern about a vehicle that was parked near a vacant lot.

8:39 a.m., Grand Marais: The “Sweetheart Bluff Nature Area” sign was reported stolen from the Rec Park. The posts were left in place. Value of the sign is $200.

11:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued to a Milwaukee man, 53, for failure to stop at a stop sign.

4:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle accident near Devil Track River on East Highway 61. No injuries reported.

6:20 p.m., Grand Marais: PUC contacted after a power line was accidentally cut.

9:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Gunshots reported.

Tuesday, June 30

8:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a suspicious-looking white pick-up truck with cardboard in the windows that had been parked in front of the caller’s house for several days. The vehicle’s owner said it was only parked there until paving of his driveway was completed.

11:58 a.m., Grand Portage: Vehicle deep into the ditch off Hat Point Road near the water treatment plant. The vehicle was there for a day or so, the caller said.

Wednesday, July 1

8:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a delivery driver being harassed by a local man who was unhappy that a package wasn’t left at his residence when he wasn’t home, because he needed to sign for it.

11:21 a.m., Hovland: Complaint that a contractor was trying to swindle or cheat a customer.

1:58 p.m., Colvill: Game warden requested to assist a person who was using a live trap to catch destructive groundhogs, but caught a skunk instead.

2:07 p.m., Schroeder: Report of a neglected dog on the Cramer Road turned out to be unfounded.

Thursday, July 2

6:02 a.m., Schroeder: Game warden called to assist an injured deer fawn in the post office parking lot.

8:21 a.m., Grand Marais: A boat reported as stolen from a dock on Devil Track Lake was recovered. It had broken its rope and drifted away.

8:38 a.m., Grand Marais: A white llama with brown markings was running loose on County Road 7. The owners were contacted.

10:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Two women were spoken to about riding their bikes in the wrong lane of traffic on the Gunflint Trail. The caller said he came up over a hill and almost hit them.

3:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Firefighters called to extinguish a basement fire.

3:29 p.m., Lutsen: Two-vehicle accident reported on Highway 61. No injuries.

3:45 p.m., Grand Portage: Burglary reported after the back door of a residence was discovered kicked in. Some mail, cash and firewood were missing.

4:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Drug investigation. 4:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of four kids on bikes riding downtown and racing through stop signs, on the sidewalks and very reckless in general. The caller said she was afraid somebody was going to get killed. A deputy spoke with the kids about their conduct.

5:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a strange man at Four Mile Campground, walking around carrying and displaying a handgun.

Friday, July 3

8:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Pick-up in the ditch near Rockwood Lodge.

11:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about loud booms from a cannon at Grand Marais Inn. It was determined that the cannon was powder only, no projectiles, and there are no laws restricting it. The caller was advised to speak with city council about it if it becomes an ongoing problem.

11:48 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a possibly stolen motor home proved to be unfounded.

12:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint of young males racing and jumping bicycles in a downtown parking lot, after the owner asked them not to.

2:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost golden setter.

4:43 p.m., Hovland: Suspicious person reported prowling around a cabin.

6:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Problems with the locks reported at the Info Center.

10:16 p.m., Grand Marais: The4-H and Community Center buildings were found to be unlocked, and someone had plugged up the toilets.

10:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Fireworks complaints from the Rec Park.

Saturday, July 4

1:48 a.m., Tofte: Reckless driving reported in the Tofte Park. 8:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism reported at the golf course after it was discovered someone broke the ignition switch on a golf cart and went for a short joy ride. The greens were also damaged.

9:52 a.m., Grand Marais: Reckless driver reported on Devil Track Road.

10:55 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance requested to transport a 7-year-old who fell through a window and landed on a cement patio about 10 feet below. The child was complaining of head pain.

11:36 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a neighbor shooting crossbow arrows onto the caller’s property, in an attempt to take deer out of season. A deputy spoke with both parties.

12:21 p.m., Tofte: Reported loss of a large blue backpack containing women’s clothes and prescription medications. The caller said it fell off her vehicle.

12:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Anonymous caller complained about the “very loud” noise created by the airplane giving rides from the harbor, and also said it was creating a hazard for the boats in the harbor. She was advised a permit had been issued for the plane rides, and nothing illegal was happening.

2:43 p.m., Tofte: Two-vehicle accident on the highway in front of the Coho. No injuries reported, but a tow truck was needed.

3:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Forest Service notified about a fire on an island in Northern Lights Lake. Water was dumped on it from a beaver.

4:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a motorcyclist.

6:51 p.m., Tofte: Rescue units called to Temperance River where a swimmer was seen going under, and disappeared. The search was to continue through the night. 7:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint from the Rec Park about barking dogs that were left in a camper.

8:36 p.m., Colvill: Vehicle fire at Paradise Beach. The vehicle was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and was a total loss.

9:28 p.m., Tofte: Report of a fight in front of the North Shore Market.

10:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of people climbing onto the roof of Johnson’s Foods.

10:06 p.m., Tofte: Several reports received about a fireworks explosion at Bluefin.

10:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Call from Sag Lake Trail about illegal fireworks.

Sunday, July 5

4:12 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a loud fight involving three people at Devil Track campground.

12:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputies called to settle a verbal dispute. Social Services will be notified in the morning.

1:03 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to remove an unwanted person from a residence. A 24-year-old man was arrested for domestic assault.

3:03 p.m., Schroeder: A vehicle with Iowa plates went into the ditch near Tac Harbor public landing. The driver said he fell asleep.

3:16 p.m., Grand Portage: Grass fire at the Info Center was quickly extinguished.

6:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Assault with a pellet gun.

5:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance called after a 51-year-old woman fell about 4 feet off her deck and was suffering head and neck pain, and experiencing a tingling sensation.

11:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Dumpster on fire at North House Folk School, next to the A building.
