Monday, Jan. 24 5:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported an injured deer on the highway and asked to keep the meat. 11:36 a.m., Grand Portage: 911 hang-up call from a Townsite Road residence was determined to be some type of trouble with the phone line. 12:00 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a man, 57, with a broken leg. 3:39 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a man, 40, with a back injury. 4:03 p.m., Grand Portage: U.S. Customs advised the sheriff ’s department of a hitchhiker who was just turned back from entering Canada. He was wearing a parka and sneakers, and had a bag full of physics books. His story kept changing and not making sense. There are no warrants for him but he has a criminal history of breaking and entering, and Customs was concerned he may commit some break-ins in the area. Border Patrol was also notified. 5:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about barking dogs on Eighth Avenue. The dogs were in an outdoor kennel and nobody was home. Tuesday, Jan. 25 6:49 a.m., Grand Portage: Deer struck on the highway, disabling the vehicle. 12:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Credit card fraud reported. The caller said $1,200 was withdrawn from ATMs in the Chicago area. 3:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding citation issued to a Grand Marais woman, 35. 6:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Dog struck and injured near 2544 County Road 7. The owner was notified. Wednesday, Jan. 26 4:24 p.m., Grand Marais: The man who was seen hitchhiking and refused entry into Canada on Monday stayed at Grand Portage Lodge Monday night, Aspen Lodge Tuesday night, and is now at Trail Center talking about hiking across the BWCA so he could get into North Dakota, and then into Canada. A deputy picked him up and brought him in to the hospital for evaluation. He was later transported to St. Luke’s. Thursday, Jan. 27 2:22 a.m., Lutsen: Vehicle in the ditch about a mile south of Lutsen Resort. The vehicle was damaged but it appeared the occupants were picked up by another vehicle. 7:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Several calls about an injured deer at mile marker 98 needing to be put down. Wolves were circling it. 8:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch at Rock Cut. 9:02 a.m., Lutsen: Vehicle in the ditch near Isak Hansen’s. 7:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance requested at a residence where a 15-year-old girl was refusing to leave with either of her parents. It was a half-hour standoff. 8:07 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to the casino following a domestic altercation. Friday, Jan. 28 1:25 a.m., Grand Portage: Thunder Bay resident, 38, cited for tampering with a fire alarm. 9:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Illegal dumping complaint. 11:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Neebing, Ontario woman, 45, cited for speeding. 11:09 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a male, 17, with a back injury. 11:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 43, cited for speeding. 6:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a semi truck traveling east with no tail lights. Canadian Customs notified. Saturday, Jan. 29 9:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a plow driver pushing snow from a parking lot back onto the street. 10:13 a.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off reported by Holiday. 2:09 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance requested at the ski hill for a man, 28, with a head injury. 2:58 p.m., Tofte: Parking complaint involving threats. 4:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Suicide threats investigation was unfounded. The 10-yearold was found cutting CDs with a knife and was believed to be upset. 10:33 p.m., Lutsen: Eagan man, 26, cited for open container. Sunday, Jan. 30 11:51 a.m., Lutsen: Theft of services reported after a woman pretended to be another and was able to get a free pass for the day. 1:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Garage fire on County Road 60. The garage was a total loss. 1:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Loss of a diamond earring reported. 3:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 48, cited for speeding.
