Monday, Dec. 27 9:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Lost wallet reported. 12:20 p.m., Grand Portage: Motorist driving a rental car struck a deer at the bottom of Mineral Center Road. 10:06 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy spoke with the driver of a suspicious vehicle that pulled into a driveway on County Road 14, then pulled out. The driver said he was just looking for someplace to sleep overnight, and went to the Kadunce wayside. Tuesday, Dec. 28 12:18 p.m., Tofte: Fire department and ambulance paged out when a fire alarm went off on Tofte Homestead Drive. 1:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Forest Lake man, 16, cited for speeding. 1:43 p.m., Lutsen: Two-vehicle accident reported on Caribou Trail. Minor damage and no injuries reported. 2:51 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for an 11-year-old boy with a head injury. 6:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Large van broken down on the highway at mile marker 98, blocking the eastbound lane. 6:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that someone took the tailgate of his truck while they were having dinner at My Sister’s Place. Nothing in the back of the truck was taken. Wednesday, Dec. 29 9:40 a.m., Lutsen: Two-car accident on Ski Hill Road, no injuries reported. 11:22 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a 22-year-old woman with a head injury. 12:55 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a 12-year-old girl with a back injury. 12:59 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested because somebody stole about 150 Loritab pills. 1:02 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested because the caller’s roommate’s ex-boyfriend came into the house and took an urn. 3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Hit-and-run at Buck’s Hardware. Thursday, Dec. 30 7:47 a.m., Lutsen: Gas drive-off of $35. 12:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint. The caller said the dog has been barking all day for the past couple months. 2:51 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to make arrangements to allow a woman to get into her ex-fiance’s house to get her personal belongings. 7:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that County Road 8 had a couple inches of slippery slush, and was very difficult to drive on. Highway Department notified. Friday, Dec. 31 12:34 a.m., Grand Marais: MnDOT notified following reports of icy and slushy conditions on the highway between Onion River and town. 1:43 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy requested to investigate a suspicious vehicle with four occupants that was parked on Ski Hill Road for the past 45 minutes. The vehicle left before the deputy arrived. 3:02 a.m., Grand Portage: Assault reported. 7:55 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy requested to help remove an unwanted group of five guys from the main lodge. 9:44 a.m., Grand Portage: Thunder Bay man, 21, cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle. 10:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to listen to a message that did not seem appropriate. 10:49 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for an 11-year-old boy with a back injury. 11:32 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he found his mail on the ground and thinks it may have been tampered with. 3:05 p.m., Grand Marais: A caller who reported that 28 methadone pills were taken found the missing pills. Nothing was stolen. 4:05 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a 41-year-old woman with a head injury. 9:53 p.m., Hovland: Snowmobiler hit a dock on McFarland Lake and suffered leg and pelvis injuries, and a compound fracture of his lower leg. A deputy, First Responders and the ambulance responded and transported the victim to the hospital. 10:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of four people in dark clothing walking in the middle of the highway near Gunnar’s. The caller was afraid they were going to be hit, but they were gone when a deputy checked the area. Saturday, Jan. 1 2:31 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to Caribou Highlands for a 44-year-old man who said he had food poisoning. 11:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle accident just below the water tower on the Gunflint Trail. No injuries. 1:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to keep an eye on the Grand Marais Apartments. The caller said he was worried about ongoing vandalism. 8:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested after some kids were throwing stuff at a house on West Third Street. Sunday, Jan. 2 11:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a stolen snowmobile and trailer from the parking area near Honeymoon Trail. 2:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 60, cited for speeding. 3:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle went into the ditch off the Gunflint Trail near Golf Course Road. No injuries.
