Monday, Oct. 18

1:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a vehicle on County Road 7 west of the hospital.

6:44 a.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested for a woman who had intentionally taken too many pills.

8:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a missing 55 mph sign just west of Hovland. MnDOT notified.

10:31 a.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off from Holiday. State Patrol notified.

10:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck on North Gunflint Lake Road.

5:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Unpermitted burn pile reported near Foothill Blvd. Fire department responded to douse the fire.

5:22 p.m., Hovland: Report of a man in a red car that was parked in the caller’s driveway. The man was leaning back with a towel on his face. A deputy checked the area.

5:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of someone burning “toxic” materials in a barrel on Cutoff Road. A deputy determined that it was sawdust being burned, not garbage.

Tuesday, Oct. 19

4:15 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to speak with a suspicious person who had confronted a woman in the casino and asked her to go to the parking lot with him.

6:32 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported pieces of deer scattered on the west side of the rock cut, creating a traffic hazard. MnDOT notified.

8:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Game warden requested to assist a deer in distress in Lake Superior, east of Five Mile Rock.

3:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint of two teen-aged girls lying across Fourth Avenue West near the ball field. Theymoved out of the road when the caller passed, but then went right back and lay down again. A deputy spoke with them and advised them not to do that any more.

5:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about the thick smoke from the controlled burn on the Gunflint Trail from the Windigo area to the west end of Loon Lake. Thecaller said he didn’t believe people should have to be put through that, and was advised to contact the Forest Service.

7:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a vehicle in the ditch at mile 75 on the lake side of the highway.

8:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller concerned about her daughter, who took off after an argument with her father and turned off her cell phone.

10:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Juvenile, 17, cited for drinking and driving.

Wednesday, Oct. 20

9:23 a.m., Grand Marais: A deer struck and injured on the highway was found lying in the caller’s yard. A permit of possession was requested to keep the meat.

9:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Check fraud investigation.

1:12 p.m., Grand Portage: Bullet hole discovered in a window.

1:34 p.m., Tofte: Camera turned in with suspicious/disturbing photos on it. Under investigation. 4:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Cell phone stolen from a truck at IGA. Theradio had also been messed with, but not stolen.

8:34 p.m., Grand Portage: Burglar alarm at the Wellness Center.

9:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller concerned about possible child abuse.

Thursday, Oct. 21

10:25 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of a white van speeding around at 70 mph.

11:27 a.m., Lutsen: Property owner spoken to about burning brush without a permit.

11:28 a.m., Grand Marais: A wolf with mange was seen thrashing around in the ditch off Lindskog Road. Game warden contacted.

12:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a bumper from a car.

12:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas driveoff from Holiday. Thedriver was located and paid the $48.34 owed.

2:14 p.m., Grand Marais: A southbound semi was seen with an orange traffic barrel wedged underneath. The driver was later seen pulled over, removing the barrel.

3:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Assault reported.

6:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Rescue units were called to the Coast Guard dock after a man went into the lake after his dog, and couldn’t get out. He got out before the first unit arrived and was checked out, but did not require transport to the hospital.

Friday, Oct. 22

12:15 a.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage juvenile, 18, arrested for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

7:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Gunshots reported near Devil Track Lake.

9:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassment reported.

Saturday, Oct. 23

6:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Grass fire reported in a vacant lot.

3:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Montana man, 39, cited for speeding.

3:21 p.m., Grand Portage: Two St. Paul-area men arrested at the Port of Entry for trying to smuggle 11 bottles of acetaminophen with codeine (200 pills per bottle) across the border.

4:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about the neighbor’s dog chasing deer.

Sunday, Oct. 24

3:29 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 40, arrested for DWI.

3:20 p.m., Colvill: Caller wanted to speak to a deputy about her neighbor, who took pictures of her when she tipped her ATV over as she was being pulled by her sled dogs. A deputy told her there was nothing illegal about it, as she was in the right of way of a county road.

6:40 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputies and State Patrol put on the look-out for a black pick-up truck involved in a gas drive-off at the C-store. Thedriver paid $300 cash but denied pumping about $84 worth of additional fuel from two other pumps. The suspect was observed on surveillance cameras.

8:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Investigation of a sex offender failing to register.

8:58 p.m., Tofte: Bluefin reported that a man who was cut off from the bar and told to leave started yelling and swearing and became involved in a minor altercation with an older couple. He left stating he was going to call his attorney and press charges for assault.
