Saturday, Aug. 28

1:19 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy requested at Papa Charlie’s parking lot for a lot of rowdiness and squealing tires.

2:19 a.m., Lutsen: Noise complaint at Lutsen Resort.

9:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Bear complaint at Eighth Avenue West and First Street. Thecaller said he saw the bear hiding in the bushes. Game warden notified.

10:06 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy called to move a dead deer off the bike trail.

10:29 a.m., Grand Marais: Woman said she was doing yoga on the beach when she heard something behind her, looked up and saw a guy wearing sunglasses who ducked.

11:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Tree down near Four Corners. Highway Department notified.

12:11 p.m., Schroeder: Deputy called to a campground, where coolers of food have disappeared two weekends in a row.

3:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Skate board stolen from the library.

7:05 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to remove an unwanted man from an apartment.

Sunday, Aug. 29

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: GPS unit was found on the water tower trail.

1:25 p.m., Colvill: Complaint about ATVs going up and down the Lake Superior shoreline over private property. A deputy spoke with the offenders.

10:50 p.m., Lutsen: Lutsen man, 49, arrested for driving after cancellation and speeding.

Monday, Aug. 30

2:20 a.m., Grand Portage: Woman requested assistance with her son, who has threatened to harm himself.

9:17 a.m., Colvill: A lock was cut on Maker Lane near Trout Lake, and there was broken glass on the ground.

10:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Property owner said two renters intentionally destroyed her condo unit.

2:33 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that his ex-girlfriend just punched him. He wasn’t hurt, he just wanted it noted and for her to leave him alone.

4:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Barneveld, Wis., man, 26, cited for speeding.

5:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Woman reported that her wallet was stolen at IGA. It was later found near Myer Creek. The$184 cash was missing, but IDs and credit cards were still inside.

8:49 p.m., Grand Marais: A woman reported that as she was walking her dog along the bike path near Second Avenue, another very large dog named “Ella” jumped out the window of a passing vehicle and attacked her dog. The driver stopped right in the road, ran over and got his dog off of hers, apologized and left. The caller’s dog was not injured, but she wanted the incident on the record.

10:31 p.m., Grand Portage: Burglar alarm activated at the Great Hall at the national monument. Park ranger responded and found the building secure.

Tuesday, Aug. 31

11:50 a.m., Grand Marais: A blue wallet was found near Dairy Queen. Theowner was called.

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy spoke with a woman regarding threats that were made toward her.

3:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that a woman on a scooter went through the stop sign on Fifth Street and almost hit her.

4:51 p.m., Tofte: Campers at Crescent Lake had their site ransacked and fishing poles, and pots and pans were taken.

7:26 p.m., Lutsen: Complaint about a bear that took down a bird feeder and was looking in the screen window, and then started eating an underground beehive. The caller said it wouldn’t scare away, and she was afraid it would come through the door and into the house. Game warden notified.

9:32 p.m., Grand Portage: Burglar alarm activated at the Great Hall at the national monument. The building was secure.

10:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance needed to remove a former employee from the property.

Wednesday, Sept. 1

12:40 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy dispatched a bear that was hit by a semi on the highway near Cascade Lodge.

11:14 a.m., Grand Portage: Break-in of a residence reported on Picnic Bay Estates, and about $200 worth of clothing was stolen.

5:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a person riding a bicycle has been sleeping at the Laundromat the last couple of nights.

10:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a vehicle about five miles south of town.

Thursday, Sept. 2

10:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a vehicle near Cascade River. It ran off into the woods.

12:55 p.m., Grand Portage: Head Start requested extra patrols due to several cars driving in their lot at night.

10:45 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to remove an unwanted person from a residence. He has been drinking and won’t leave.

Friday, Sept. 3

10:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Tree blocking the southbound lane of the Trail near Okontoe.

11:09 a.m., Hovland: Investigation of a shed break-in on North Road.

11:36 a.m., Grand Marais: Tree down and blocking Camp 20 Road. Highway Department notified. 12:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Campers at the Rec Park reported that they had a cooler full of beer stolen the night before.

1:41 p.m., Schroeder: Tofte Search & Rescue and Cook County Ambulance were dispatched to 8161 W. Highway 61, where a guy was found lying on the ground unconscious.

3:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a baby bear on Second Avenue East.

9:17 p.m., Grand Portage: Woman arrested at Customs for three warrants out of Chisago, Hennepin and Dakota counties.

Saturday, Sept. 4

8:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a mama and baby bear in a yard on First Avenue West, eating apples.

2:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a dump truck traveling on the highway with a bunch of people sitting and standing in the back. Some appeared to be drinking.

4:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Wallet found in the road near the library.

4:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Woman requesting a deputy because her husband is drunk and is scaring her and the kids.

Sunday, Sept. 5

2:10 a.m., Grand Portage: Phone harassment.

2:37 a.m., Lutsen: Caller reported that someone woke them up with loud knocking on the cabin window, then ran through the cabin and disappeared into the woods.

11:32 a.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested at Hat Point marina for a diving accident.

2:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Reckless driving reported at the campground.

3:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a new charcoal starter from a site at the campground.

5:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Old Northwoods Lodge reported a wounded bear lying in the ditch on their road. Game warden notified.

7:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy spoke with a man who was acting suspiciously at Iron Lake Campground. The caller said he was sitting in his car with a lit lighter waving it back and forth, and just staring at it.

9:16 p.m. and 9:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Two Thunder Bay drivers cited for speeding.

11:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Burglar alarm at Superior Design Jewelry. The building was found to be secure.

11:25 p.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage woman, 44, arrested for DWI.
