proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes a
complete accounting of names and penalties in its Matters of Record.

Monday, Aug. 23

3:51 a.m., Grand Marais: A deer was struck and killed by a vehicle on the highway. A deputy dragged it off the road.

10:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost pink wallet containing credit cards, client cards and about $70 cash.

2:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a silver vehicle parked along the Gunflint Trail near Blankenburg Pit for the last two or three days. The windows are open, and there’s a container of blueberries inside. Nobody in the area knew anything about it. The Forest Service was asked to double-check the plates.

4:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported getting automated telephone calls at home about some type of alarm going off at a residence on Highway 61. He said he doesn’t know who lives there and isn’t a keyholder. A deputy went to the address and determined the alarm was malfunctioning.

5:01 p.m., Lutsen: False fire alarm at Caribou Highlands. A child pulled the alarm lever.

7:05 p.m., Schroeder: Caller requested a deputy to check out the gunshots she has been hearing the last couple of nights.

Tuesday, Aug. 24

12:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint about a loud group of people at the Rec Park pavilion who have been there for a couple hours.

11:43 a.m., Grand Portage: Driving complaint about a vehicle with South Dakota plates driving 65 mph in a 30 mph zone. The caller said he followed the vehicle to the marina where the man and woman were camping and gave them an earful.

12:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off from SA of $27.51. The owner was contacted and returned to pay.

1:00 p.m., Schroeder: A guest at a resort said he heard a shotgun go off at about 7 p.m. the previous evening.

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a husky was in her yard, and she believes it’s the neighbor’s that tore up her dog last year. If it is, she’s going to shoot it.

3:04 p.m., Grand Portage: Duluth Coast Guard requested the ambulance to meet one of their boats at the marina that was bringing in a man in cardiac arrest. It was later learned that the man, 58, wasn’t in cardiac arrest but had arrhythmia and numbness, and he refused treatment. The ambulance was cancelled.

3:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that a man has lived here since April and still hasn’t changed his Tennessee license plates to Minnesota.

5:42 p.m., Grand Marais: A young chocolate lab that was running around loose near the hospital was picked up and put in the pound. The owners were contacted to pick up the dog.

11:50 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to remove two drunk people from outside a residence. The caller said he kicked them out of the apartment but they refused to leave, and were banging on the door. A Grand Portage man, 24, was arrested on a no-drink probation violation and cited for disorderly conduct.

Wednesday, Aug. 25

1:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called for an unwanted person who was creating a disturbance at the ER.

1:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called for an altercation between the caller and his drunken roommate. An arrest was made for second-degree assault, criminal damage to property and domestic assault.

10:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Mother reported that her daughter had been hiking the previous night on Pincushion, and a mangy German shepherd attacked her.

4:59 p.m., Grand Portage: A Canadian citizen made a wrong turn and ended up at the Port with seven grams of marijuana and a used grinder.

5:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to the Rec Park to resolve an issue with three boys who were causing trouble all day.

8:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassing phone calls reported.

9:22 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested for a 35-yearold man who was stuck under a truck. He was transported to the hospital and airlifted to Duluth.

10:49 p.m., Schroeder: Single-vehicle accident at mile marker 76, no injuries. The driver said she hit the gravel on the shoulder and slid into the ditch.

Thursday, Aug. 26

11:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost cell phone between the Rec Park and library.

11:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported a lost camera sometime during Fisherman’s Picnic.

11:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism (black spray paint) to a vehicle parked at Gunflint Lodge.

11:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of lost bifocal sunglasses between Holiday and the post office.

4:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that branches of various sizes fell out of a truck on County Road 7, creating a hazard.

10:37 p.m., Grand Portage: Harassment reported.

Friday, Aug. 27

3:02 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that two men were in the hallway of his apartment building with a gun and he could hear them loading and cocking the gun. The men then left the building and went across the street to where one of them lives. Deputies did not find a gun, but cited a man for underage consumption.

9:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested by the Rec Park staff regarding a couple local kids who had been asked to leave on Wednesday, but were back at 12:30 a.m. the previous night. They were seen running into the woods.

12:44 p.m., Grand Marais: UPS driver ran over a dog that had been chasing the truck for a block or so at Third Street and Third Avenue West.

1:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassment.

2:08 p.m., Grand Marais: An abandoned bicycle was reported in the Joynes parking lot.

3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Birchwood resident saw a yearling black bear outside his window, yelled at it, and it ran away. He said he was concerned because there are a lot of kids around the area.

7:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller concerned about a car that was parked in the ravine at the rock cut. He said it was backed in, and he wasn’t sure how it got down there.

10:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Someone dumped an old septic tank at the airport gravel pit.
