Monday, Aug. 16

10:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Residential burglar alarm, determined to be unfounded.

11:20 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to the powwow grounds following the reported theft of a purse that was sitting on the bleachers unattended.

4:21 p.m., Grand Portage: Reported theft of medication and a CD player from a tent at the powwow grounds.

4:41 p.m., Hovland: Vehicle accident involving a motorcycle near Naniboujou.

7:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a van with three barking dogs inside.

Tuesday, Aug. 17

10:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a vehicle near the rock cut. There was some damage to the front of the vehicle; the deer got up and ran into the woods.

6:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Hit-and-run damage done to a parked vehicle at Johnson’s Foods parking lot.

10:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said she left her purse on a chair outside the Java Moose and asked to be called if it was turned in.

Wednesday, Aug. 18

11:30 a.m., Grand Portage: The clinic reported that medication had been stolen off the counter.

4:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a neighbor’s lawn mower may have been damaged by someone putting something in the gas.

5:28 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint that the neighbor’s boys shot holes in a travel trailer with a pellet gun.

6:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested regarding “issues” at Harbor View.

Thursday, Aug. 19

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: A car crashed into the ditch near the water tower. The female driver was not injured and there was no damage done to the vehicle, but a tow truck was needed.

1:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Shakopee woman, 22, cited for speeding.

2:50 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive off at Holiday. The driver returned a short time later and paid the $38.

3:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Attempted break-in of the WIC office in the clinic basement discovered.

7:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a woman took off from Birch Terrace and was driving erratically with kids in the car. Deputies could not locate the car, described as a small black Toyota.

8:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to escort a man to a friend’s property to retrieve a boat that was stored there. He said he didn’t think it was going to go very well.

9:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Finland man, 19, cited for speeding.

10:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Blaine man, 44, cited for speeding.

10:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint at the campground.

Friday, Aug. 20
1:21 a.m., Lutsen: Numerous reports of power outages.

10:47 a.m., Schroeder: State trooper responded to reports of an empty logging truck that was speeding northbound from the Sugarloaf area.

11:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Illegal dumping of brush in the Seagull Lake area. There was also a report of a person dumping garbage at the Iron Lake campground Dumpsters.

12:25 p.m., Grand Marais: The sheriff stopped a transport truck that had an orange construction cone wedged under it. The driver said he believed it got stuck at the border, and he’d return it on his way back through.

2:36 p.m., Tofte: Rescue units were called to help a man out in the water at the mouth of the Temperance River. He got back to shore safely and was checked out by First Responders. The ambulance was cancelled.

8:09 p.m., Schroeder: Complaint about campers illegally staying overnight at Taconite Safe Harbor where it says “No Camping.” One group said they got permission from a CO to camp there, and the other said he’d be leaving in the morning.

8:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy spoke with kids who were driving recklessly in the Coast Guard parking lot.

10:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he heard a loud pop, and then the power went out.

Saturday, Aug. 21

9:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported harassment by a neighbor who was revving the engine of a four-wheeler.

10:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that her bumper was hit and scratched while parked at the Farmer’s Market. The driver got out and looked at it, said it wasn’t damaged, and left.

10:27 a.m., Colvill: Deer struck and killed on the highway near County Road 14.

4:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Driving complaint about an Arizona vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing unsafely coming down the Gunflint Trail.

5:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Two-vehicle accident on First Avenue West downtown. No injuries.

6:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Man arrested for assault after he allegedly punched someone who was walking. The caller said he believes it is an ongoing issue, and the victim will need stitches.

10:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone was shooting something, possibly a potato gun, at her house.

11:28 p.m., Lutsen: Deputy assisted with breaking up a party on the beach.

Sunday, Aug. 22

7:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to investigate an ongoing problem with ATVers running up and down Aero Drive, which is a private road.

10:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Richmond man, 23, cited for speeding.

10:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of an inoperable Derringer out of a glove compartment. The holster was left behind.

11:25 a.m., Schroeder: Deputy responded to a report that someone was burning junk at a house on Cramer Road, making black stinky smoke. The fire was put out, and the deputy spoke with the person about what could legally be burned.

11:28 a.m., Schroeder: A person riding a bicycle on the Cramer Road was bitten by a dog and went to the hospital to get it looked at.

12:21 p.m., Lutsen: Caller concerned about the gravel washing away at the edge of the Caribou Trail. Highway Department notified.

1:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to speak with a group of four teenage boys who were riding skateboards all over downtown.

3:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported vandalism and theft of a carved eagle from the mini-golf course.

6:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay woman, 46, cited for speeding.

8:19 p.m., Grand Portage: Calgary woman, 23, cited for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia after being stopped at the border.

9:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Plummer man, 39, cited for speeding.
