Monday, July 26

2:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about some kids in the road on Eighth Avenue and First Street West. The caller said it was a little late for them to be out. They were gone when a deputy checked the area.

6:52 a.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle lost a wheel just east of Cascade, and was off the road. A tow truck was called.

8:57 a.m., Grand Portage: Theft of medication from a residence.

12:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Minneapolis man, 26, cited for speeding.

3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle parked in front of Hughie’s Tacos didn’t have any license plates.

4:19 p.m., Schroeder: A storage building on The Grade was broken into with a sledge hammer.

6:16 p.m., Grand Portage: Ontario man, 45, cited at the border for possession of a small amount of marijuana.

6:36 p.m., Lutsen: Caller said that he overheard a couple discussing an underage drinking party planned for later that evening, and wanted to alert the sheriff.

10:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Tofte woman cited for no driver’s license in possession and headlight out.

Tuesday, July 27

12:16 a.m., Grand Marais: Loud party complaint near GoFer Cabins.

6:59 a.m., Tofte: Complaint that a neighbor is cutting brush on the caller’s property and dumping it in his private gravel pit. The entrance was blocked, but the neighbor just goes around the barricade.

9:39 a.m., Tofte: Report that there were a couple drunk men near a boat house wearing head lamps between 2:30 and 3 a.m. They were overheard planning to return the next night and break into the boat house. The caller requested extra patrols.

10:39 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputies requested for harassment that occurred in the courthouse parking lot.

10:49 a.m., Grand Marais: Cross River Lodge reported the theft of the old Moosehorn Lodge sign.

2:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Investigation of the theft of the Internet card from the public computer at the Senior Center.

5:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Child abuse investigation.

Wednesday, July 28

10:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a black and white dog that was running around the highway near the rock shop.

10:47 a.m., Grand Marais: Chaska man, 64, cited for speeding.

11:08 a.m., Grand Marais: Woodbury man, 31, cited for speeding.

11:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that a cement truck was dropping cement onto the highway.

11:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Minneapolis woman, 18, cited for speeding.

12:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Minneapolis man, 33, cited for speeding.

12:44 p.m., Grand Marais: South Carolina man, 70, cited for speeding.

3:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that someone tried to steal a motor off a boat and in the process damaged it, and left it there.

4:43 p.m., Schroeder: Fire alarm at Bluefin.

4:55 p.m., Lutsen: Report that a car window had been broken out. The car was parked at Cascade campground.

6:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Request that a stop sign be put up at the post officeexit and the bike trail.

11:55 p.m., Grand Portage: Child custody complaint.

Thursday, July 29

1:39 a.m., Grand Marais: Fire alarm at a West Highway 61 residence.

9:12 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to speak with a woman who, according to the caller, “flipped out” and was yelling, screaming and swearing in front of a child. She also threw something at the caller’s vehicle, but it didn’t appear there was any damage.

9:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Erratic driving complaint regarding a vehicle on Highway 61. The caller said the driver was either elderly, drunk or distracted and was all over the road. 10:07 a.m., Grand Marais: A cabin was broken into, but it appeared nothing was taken.

10:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Altercation reported in an apartment complex parking lot. A deputy spoke with both men.

12:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Renters who were evicted from a cabin trashed and damaged it.

3:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller expressed concern about a large barking dog that was left in a parked vehicle in town. A deputy checked the dog, and it was fine, not in any distress.

3:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller again expressed concern about two big panting dogs in a parked station wagon near Chez Jude.

4:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about vehicles speeding through the 40 mph zone at mid-Trail.

4:45 p.m., Grand Portage: Reported theft of a $100 post office money order at the Community Center. The victim said he believes he knows who took it.

5:19 p.m., Schroeder: Fire alarm at Cross River Heritage Center determined to be a false alarm.

9:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Edina man, 47, cited for speeding.

Friday, July 30

9:52 a.m., Grand Marais: Three mailboxes were missing from East Highway 61 residences.

3:08 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of $36 from Holiday.

10:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Three kids who were being disorderly at the Point were brought in to the Law Enforcement Center, and their parents were called to pick them up.

10:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Chaska man, 55, cited for speeding.

Saturday, July 31

6:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Two vehicles parked behind Dockside overnight were broken into. It was determined that some prescription medication was taken.

8:14 a.m., Lutsen: Boater requested Coast Guard assistance after he lost power on Lake Superior between Terrace Point and Cascade River.

11:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Portage man, 27, cited for inattentive driving after he struck a no parking barrier in the hospital’s parking lot and had to be towed.

12:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested at the Rec Park regarding a stolen bike.

1:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy asked to investigate reports that someone has been camping on the east bay of Lake Superior between Sydney’s and Artist Point for the past three nights. There was nobody around, but the area will be checked again after dark.

2:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller concerned about a box of poison left behind the Birchwood building. It wasn’t known who put it there, or what exactly it was. The caretaker will be contacted for more information, and a deputy checked it.

7:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance called for a 55-year-old woman with a burn on her leg caused by a propane tank explosion at the dock. She was transported to the Canadian border for an intercept with Canadian air ambulance.

8:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that sea gulls have gotten into the garbage on Coast Guard Point, creating quite a mess. A city parks worker was contacted to clean up the area.

8:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about the foreign workers who live near Grand Marais State Bank. The caller said that every night they are outside drinking, yelling and screaming. Added patrols requested.

9:40 p.m., Grand Marais: A Thunder Bay constable contacted the sheriff to get information about the owner of a vehicle that was not in roadworthy condition and found abandoned near a driveway on the Canadian side of the border. The information was found and passed along.

9:50 p.m., Hovland: Deer struck and killed on the highway. Deputy and tow truck called.

9:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about fireworks being shot off near Raven Feather Road.

10:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Property owner said he had given eviction papers to a renter, and he drove by and there are kids over there, partying still.

10:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about two girls on mopeds driving around downtown, not obeying traffic laws.

Sunday, Aug. 1

3:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about neighbors having a campfire, and the smoke is coming directly into the caller’s windows.

3:19 p.m., Grand Marais: A pick-up truck was stuck in the ditch just south of mile marker 73.
