Monday, June 8
8:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about blasting caps strewn about the property on Sag Lake Trail.
9:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of lifting weights from behind the dumpster at Grand Marais Apartments.
10:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Investigation into the use of cleaning chemicals possibly causing illness in residents.
10:01 a.m., Grand Portage: A lock on the shed behind the Elderly Nutrition building was discovered broken, but it appeared nothing was taken.
11:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Vulnerable adult assault case investigated.
2:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Human Services notified following a report that a juvenile male was being neglected and behaving inappropriately.
5:19 p.m., Grand Portage: The fire department was called to a vehicle fire in the ditch off the casino parking lot. A Grand Portage man, 45, was arrested for DWI and test refusal, and booked into jail.
Tuesday, June 9
3:52 p.m., Grand Marais: A Grand Marais man, 27, was cited for no proof of insurance and driving with a cracked windshield.
4:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Welfare check requested on a man who the caller said has not left his home in about a month, and has lost 25-30 pounds.
5:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Drug investigation.
10:40 p.m., Grand Marais: A driver was warned by a deputy about his erratic driving following a complaint from a truck driver.
Wednesday, June 10
9:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Check forgery investigation.
10:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical assistance requested for a man who fell on the rocks at Coast Guard Point.
11:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy responded to dispatch a badly injured moose that was struck by a car near Trail Center.
12:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to speak with a group of kids who were sitting in the middle of the intersection of Broadway and Fourth Street. They returned to school.
3:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of $500 from a credit card account.
3:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported hitting a deer on Highway 61; it popped back up and landed in the back of his pickup truck and was still alive. He drove to Cascade, where a trooper helped remove the dead deer from the truck. The vehicle sustained a hood dent.
4:45 p.m., Grand Marais: A lost beagle was picked up by a passerby and brought into the Law Enforcement Center. The owner was contacted.
8:56 p.m., Tofte: Two men were seen digging through the dumpster behind Coho Cafe and eating from it. They were gone when a deputy arrived. 10:43 p.m., Grand Portage: Domestic assault.
Thursday, June 11
1:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported loss of a digital camera.
2:57 p.m., Grand Portage: Casino reported the receipt of a counterfeit Canadian $50 bill.
8:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a fire ring from the Girl Scout property.
8:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of 14-16 cans of beer from a cooler. The owner said he saw a suspicious vehicle “casing” the area.
9:32 p.m., Grand Portage: Three juveniles were seen leaving a residence. Theydid not have permission to be there.
11:30 p.m., Tofte: A rolled-over vehicle was discovered in the ditch on the Sawbill Trail. No one was inside or around the vehicle.
11:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Property owners reported that they just arrived at their cabin, and it appears as though someone has been living in it because there is moldy food in the fridge and clothing on the table.
Friday, June 12
3:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that about five kids were walking on County Road 7 toward the Community Center.
Saturday, June 13
1:02 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a drunken man down on the ground near Lund’s Cabins. Two other men helped him up and brought him into a cabin.
1:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a group of people revving their vehicles’ engines at a home across from Birchwood Apartments. When a deputy arrived, an ATV ran and a pursuit started. The ATV fled up the power line trail toward the water tower. 3:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that a manhole cover was off and lying on the sidewalk near Highway 61 and Eighth Avenue West. A deputy placed it back on.
4:45 a.m., Lutsen: Report that a dead bear was blocking the northbound lane of Highway 61 near the Onion River construction zone.
8:40 a.m., Schroeder: Report of smoke coming from the base of a coal pile at the power plant. The owners said no fire department was necessary, and their coal crew would take care of it.
9:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about bicyclists riding on the highway. State patrol said it was legal, but the caller said he did not think so, and that it was unsafe.
11:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Nuisance bear complaints. The caller was advised to contact a game warden, and that permission was needed to shoot the bears.
1:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about two ATVs driving down the Caribou Trail; each had two people on and neither had rear view mirrors, according to the caller.
11:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that three campers went through a locked gate and are inside the BWCA with three vehicles at Brule Lake.
Sunday, June 14
1:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that five windows were broken out of a bus, and a few more damaged. Damage was estimated at $1,500.
2:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint that ATVs were doing donuts and racing on County Road 60. Theywere gone when a deputy arrived, and the caller requested extra patrols.
7:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off from Holiday, totaling $31.
11:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of three kids walking around town, trying to take another kid’s bike.
