Saturday, April 2
5:01 p.m. Gunflint Trail LEC: Police Transport. An officer was transporting from Fargo, North Dakota, to the Cook County Sheriff Office in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Transport began at 5:30p.m. on Saturday and ended at 12:26 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday, April 3
3:36 p.m. Grand Marais: South Broadway, Informational. Caller was going for a swim in the East Bay.
Wednesday, April 6
8:53 a.m. Fraud/Scam/ID Theft. No money was lost. Four credit cards were used to pay $7299 for reservations. A day later an email stated that the reservations had to be canceled and the party wanted the credit amount assigned to a different card. Caller recognized this as a scam and will wait for a charge back because the cards were probably stolen. Then money can be returned to the rightful owners. A day later, another email was received saying a spouse was in a horrible accident and all the credit cards were destroyed, so they need to cancel and put the money back on a new card. Another type of scam.
3:55 p.m. Grand Marais: South Broadway, Informational. Three people will be swimming in the harbor.
Thursday, April 7
10:51 a.m. East Highway 61: Criminal sexual conduct. On Facebook, caller was sent naked videos of a
woman he had never met in person. He responded with a photo and sent one video to the woman and now she is trying to blackmail him. The woman accused the man of being a pedophile. Blackmail money started at $1000 and came down to $100, whatever the man could pay. Fourand one-half hours later, the man called again and said it was a false claim and he didn’t need a deputy anymore.
Friday, April 8
2:33 a.m. Grand Portage: East Highway 61, Unwanted person. A man was using one or two rental cabins without paying for them. He had filled one cabin up with stuff. The man was eventually arrested for theft of services and burglary. He was transported to the county jail in Grand Marais.
Saturday, April 9
12:15 p.m. Grand Marais: Seventh Avenue East, ATV/OHM Complaint. Party was warned about exhibition driving and the dangers of not wearing a helmet. The person’s father was spoken to as well.
6:30 p.m. Grand Marais: Fifth Avenue West, Miscellaneous Fire Call. The Grand Marais Fire Department will be doing live fires at the fire hall for training purposes.
Tuesday, April 12
4:25 p.m. Norbakken Road: Fraud/Scam/ID Theft. Caller stated that he had listed his vintage snowmobile on a website and negotiated the purchase amount. The buyer sent a cashier check, but the check seemed odd. The caller refused to ship the snowmobile until the cashier check cleared at the bank.
