It is the policy of the Cook County News-Herald to withhold the identities of individuals in Cook County Law Enforcement briefs. When court proceedings are complete, the Cook County News- Herald publishes a complete accounting of names and penalties in its Matters of Record.

Monday, March 28

10:47 a.m. Gunflint Trail LEC: Assist another agency. Students were missing too many days of school and families were not communicating with the schools. Students missed over 60 days of school. County Human Services had a plan for future involvement, but at this time nothing was needed from law enforcement.

Tuesday, March 29

8:33 a.m. County Road 14: Animal Disturbance. Three of the neighbor’s sled dogs were in the yard and around the rabbit cage. Snowballs were thrown at the dogs and the dogs ran away toward their home. The sled dog neighbor was interviewed and advised to keep their dogs on their own property as their rabbit neighbors want the rabbits to be safe. Rabbits are part of their business, used for monetary gains. The sled dog neighbor was warned if this issue continues to be a problem, they would be cited for nuisance animals. This is an ongoing problem between the neighbors.

10:45 a.m. East Highway 61: Animal Disturbance. Person stopped by LEC to get a deer tag for roadkill. Person did not hit the deer but came across it at the scene.

Wednesday, March 30

4:46 a.m. Grand Portage: Casino Drive. Caller reported that a man was asked to leave the casino, but the man went to the smoking room instead. He was asked to leave and reminded that he wasn’t supposed to be hanging out at the casino. Investigation determined that the man was sleeping in the smoking room. When asked to leave, the man stated that he was never given a trespass letter. It was explained to the man that since he was asked to leave earlier, that was his trespass notice. The man shared a few colorful words, got up and left the property. When the officer asked him if he needed any assistance, the man shared a few more colorful comments as he walked away.

7:03 p.m. East Highway 61: Suspicious Activity. Woman reported that she has observed vehicles come up her long driveway and loop around in front of the house. This has not been a delivery truck or family member’s vehicle. Today she found snowshoe tracks leading from her driveway toward the east near the power line. Her family does not own snowshoes. She requested security checks. An officer visited the property and helped her activate her outdoor motion flood lights.

She will know when a suspicious vehicle drives up to the house and will contact law enforcement at that time.
