Tuesday, February 15
11:15 a.m. Devil Track Lake: South Shore Drive, Suspicious Activity. Caller had interactions with a person who didn’t seem to have a good reason to be in the area. Caller was worried about possible theft and vandalism. Investigation determined that the suspect was probably just snow shoeing as the tracks from their parked vehicle led to the Devil Track trail entrance. No snowshoe tracks were observed on private property.
Friday, February 18
10:55 a.m. Lutsen: Snowmobile Hazard. Caller reported that two snowmobiles were traveling in the middle of the driving lane on Highway 61. A semi-truck almost hit them. Suspects were located, they were guests at a west end condo and were having snowmobile issues. They had come off of the Onion River Road onto the highway and said they were unfamiliar with the area. They were given a verbal warning and escorted back to their condo on the Poplar River.
Sunday, February 20
1:24 a.m. South Bearskin Lake Road: Suspicious Activity. Caller reported that an older man had walked into their cabin looking for someone. The man just walked into the cabin, didn’t knock, and seemed confused. The man woke the husband and wife in the cabin when he entered; the man was carrying a flashlight. The husband spoke to the man and told him to leave. The man left. The caller was concerned that there was an old man out in the cold now. The man was located and escorted to Norwester Lodge where he was cared for as needed.
11:54 a.m. Moose Fence Trail Head: Animal Disturbance. Caller reported that two large black dogs attacked her Havanese dog. The black dogs were in the back of a mini-van and jumped out at the caller and her dog. Caller was reminded that there are no leash laws outside of the Grand Marais city limits. Investigation determined that the two black dogs were being leashed when they jumped out of the vehicle. The dog fight lasted 15 seconds before it was broken up and there were no injuries.
Monday, February 21
12:23 p.m. Grand Marais: West Third Street: Utility issue. A water line burst. The home water line became frozen on Friday or Saturday and now that it was warmer, the pipe thawed out and water was leaking into the crawl space; you could hear the water flowing out of the pipe into the crawl space. Grand Marais PUC staff were contacted.
Tuesday, February 22
9:55 a.m. Grand Mariais: County Recycle Center, Garbage violation. Surveillance cameras showed that two vehicles left things overnight at the Recycle Center. One party contacted said they did not leave anything at the center. The other party apologized, stated that he did not know they were closed for the MLK holiday. Warnings were issued.
