Wednesday, January 19
8:28 a.m. Gunflint Trail: Property lost/found. A person was snowshoeing yesterday and lost their cell phone somewhere. It was an iphone with a black case. On Thursday, January 20, the property owner was able to locate the lost phone.
Friday, January 21
3:47 p.m. South Shore Drive: Snowmobile Accident with Personal Injuries. Caller reported that he flipped his snowmobile on the trail. He said that his girlfriend was awake and breathing. Both are age 18, man may have broken his arm and woman had pain in her back. Woman was put into an auger sled and brought to where the ambulance was staged. Man was also transported to North Shore Health in an ambulance. Investigation determined that the man was driving the sled and the woman was riding passenger. They were traveling around 35 mph when they hit a wet spot on the trail. They were launched off the snowmobile and the machine rolled. They both landed on top of the over-turned snowmobile.
Saturday, January 22
3:22 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, Hit and Run Property. Caller just finished skiing and returned to their vehicle. They discovered that the back of the vehicle had a crack in the bumper. No known suspects. Surveillance camera footage was going to be reviewed.
3:46 p.m. Poplar Creek Drive: Rescue. Caller reported that a guest had been skiing and was lost on the ski trail. The guest had gone out skiing six hours ago, but just recently contact with the guest failed. An employee on a snowmobile went searching for the guest from the west side of the trail. First Responders entered the trail from the east side. About an hour later, contact was made with the lost skier. The skier was found by the employee on a snowmobile. All responders stood down and the scene was cleared.
Monday, January 24
9:58 a.m. County Road 7: Fraud/Scam/Id Theft. Caller received a letter about her recent application for unemployment, but she had not applied for unemployment. A local woman’s name was on the application and the caller’s information was used to fill in the application. A phone number was provided for the caller to report the fraud. A report was filed concerning this incident.
8:21 p.m. South Gunflint Lake: Theft. Two people were caught syphoning gas from a guest’s vehicle. Suspects were two large males, 200-300 lbs., 6’ to 6’4” tall.
The men were in a large diesel truck, two tone tan and brown, double stack in back. The guest was inside their cabin for about 15 minutes and when they came back out, they saw the two men by their vehicle. The men got into the truck and drove away. Guest found the gas cap off of their vandalized vehicle.
2:47 p.m. East Highway 61: Animal Disturbance. A woman called because she was attacked by her cat and needed to get to the hospital for stitches. An ambulance was sent, but the woman used private transportation to get to North Shore Health. The cat was captured and brought to a local animal advocate for observation and a required ten-day quarantine period.
Saturday, January 29
8:52 a.m. Spruce Creek Lane: Public Assistance. Caller reported that the cabin door was frozen shut and two people were stuck inside the cabin. They have been unable to contact their landlord. The base of the main door was frozen to the ground. Deputy walked the parties through removing the door hinges from the inside.
