Tuesday, January 4
9:36 a.m. Public Assistance. A snowmobile groomer called 911 for location and needed transfer to MSP for tracking to have the state groomer meet them for a pull out.
Wednesday, January 5
10:58 a.m. Fireweed Lane: Hit and Run involving property. Caller reported that his parked vehicle was damaged in the last 15-20 minutes, the back window was knocked out and the taillight was out. No known suspects. Investigation determined that the vehicle was probably hit hard by a white vehicle or a white trailer.
12:45 p.m. West Highway 61: Animal sighted. Two callers reported that a live bobcat cub was wandering on the road.
1:42 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Mort Meadows, Fraud/Scam reported. Woman reported that she received a message on her email that PandaCat was renewing her service contract. She called them and worked with them for three hours to get it canceled. When she checked her bank account, she discovered that the scammers had accessed the account. The scammers had deposited $4000 and then requested her to send the difference back. Bank accounts were frozen. No money was lost.
Thursday, January 6
8:41 a.m. County Road 7: Public assistance. Person called about getting a valuable tile saw back to its owner. The tile saw was sitting in a garage and the tenants needed to pick it up so they could give it back to a relative. One tenant was no longer living at the property because they were being evicted. But the other tenant could still go to the property to retrieve the tile saw. Since the driveway was not plowed, that person needed a truck that could get through the snow up to the garage, so they borrowed their dad’s truck. This drama started yesterday with neighbor involvement and a lot of communication problems.
11:32 a.m. Grand Portage: Possible Theft. Caller reported that some items were taken from his house: a cell phone, keys, and about $400. A cell phone and keys had been found and dropped off at the Law Enforcement Center about a week ago. It was the missing items. The phone and keys were returned to the caller. Caller was still confident that $20 or $30 had been stolen from him by a named suspect, but he was not sure if the missing $400 had been stolen or if he just can’t find it.
Saturday, January 8
12:16 p.m. Duncan Lake: Public Assistance. Because of deep new snow, a group of four people were struggling to get their camping gear out of the northern Duncan Lake area in the BWCAW. The reporting party was calling from Camp Menogyn. They did find some people to help; four sleds full of stuff were hauled out of the wilderness.
