Wednesday, December 22

9:47 a.m. Public Assistance with communication. Two county assessors were going to Tom Lake, Irish Creek, and the McFarland Lake area. They requested a radio talk group for the day, to coordinate and support their work. It was granted.

2:15 p.m. Linnell Road: Utility issues. Power was going out and coming back on, going out and coming back on. Investigation determined that Arrowhead Electric had to shut power off in the area to address a problem at a neighbor’s property. Power was restored soon thereafter.

Thursday, December 23

9:59 a.m. Honeymoon Trail: Assist another agency. Deputy assistance was requested to deal with a known felon that had admitted to having a firearm at his cabin and using it earlier in the day. Person of interest was cooperative.

12:40 p.m. Trout Lake Road: Public Assistance. Caller had driven off the road into the deep snow. No injuries reported but a tow was needed. Local towing company contact information was provided.

Friday, December 24

10:42 a.m. Grand Marais: Fifth Avenue West, Fraud/Scam reported. A man was trying to purchase a car on eBay last night. Steps in the process required him to purchase eBay gift cards as part of the transaction. He lost about $1200 in the scam. He contacted eBay and was told to file a police report. Investigation is ongoing.

Saturday, December 25

2:34 p.m. Gunflint Trail, Law Enforcement Center (LEC): Animal lost/found. Caller found a friendly chocolate brown pit bulldog with white markings on its face near the Co-op. Caller brought the dog to the LEC. About ten minutes later, the owner called the LEC and asked if his dog had been found. Dog’s name is Spark Plug. Owner was advised to get a collar for Spark Plug with tags containing contact information just in case Spark Plug decides to go on another adventure.

Monday, December 27

10:28 a.m. Grand Marais: East Third Street, Elevator emergency. Turned out not to be an elevator emergency, the alarm was just being set. Caller wanted to be sure that there was no response to the alarm, but used the elevator phone to call which may have triggered the 911 call.

3:46 p.m. Grand Marais: West Third Street, Welfare check requested. Caller was concerned about an elderly woman friend or neighbor whose driveway had not been shoveled or plowed out. Dispatch advised caller to contact Care Partners of Cook County to see if they had someone who could assist with the snow removal.

Tuesday, December 28

8:23 a.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth Street, City Ordinance Winter Parking Violation. Vehicle was parked on the north side of Fifth Street in front of the high school. The county highway department plow vehicles could not properly clear the road. A winter parking violation tag and ordinance information were placed on the windshield.

8:37 a.m. Grand Marais: Fifth Avenue West, City Ordinance Violation. Vehicle needed to be towed away, moved off the street. Caller was aware that the vehicle needed to be moved. Dispatch advised that there could be a citation and the tow would be at the caller’s expense. A local tow company was contacted and moved the vehicle later in the day.
