Tuesday, December 14

1:43 p.m. Pike Lake Road: Animal Concern. Two dogs took off about an hour ago. One dog is a male yellow lab, about 85 pounds; the other dog is a female German Shepard mix. Caller was house-sitting for a friend when the dogs ran off. Caller was worried the dogs might go after someone’s chickens. About ten minutes later, caller reported that the dogs had returned home.

2:36 p.m. Grand Marais: Fourth Avenue East, Animal Disturbance. Caller wanted to speak to a Conservation Officer about a bobcat that attacked his rabbits on his home property.

Wednesday, December 15

3:57 p.m. South Shore Drive: Theft. Caller reported that her blue and red line American flag was stolen from an old mailbox post on her driveway. This is the second time this has happened. A new flag will be put up and also a surveillance camera. Value of flag is $15.

10:06 p.m. East Highway 61: Power outages. A tree had fallen onto a power line and the Grand Marais PUC had to shut down a whole circuit, starting from the DNR office to the Devil Track River, to make repairs. One and one-half hour later, power was restored.

Thursday, December 16

7:43 a.m. Menogyn Trail: Power outage. Caller reported a tree had fallen on a power line. There were no sparks or danger at the moment. Arrowhead Electric was contacted.

6:33 p.m. Grand Marais: Third Avenue West, Suspicious Activity. Caller had been hearing a weird noise for the last 4-5 weeks. At first, it sounded like a foghorn, with several different tones a day. Now it sounds like logs rolling down the hill. Caller hears it day and night. It sounds far away. Noise is more obvious inside the house than outdoors, and it occurs once or twice an hour. Investigation did not uncover any unusual sounds. A neighbor across the street had some very loud wind chimes, but nothing suspicious was noted.

Friday, December 17

11:05 a.m. Grand Marais: Eighth Avenue West, Suspicious Activity in the Rec Park. Caller reported that a man was in a vehicle with what seemed to be a long gun that had no scope on it. The man looked at her when she was walking her dogs around the Rec Park. Nothing threatening happened but it seemed weird that he was hanging out at the Rec Park. No shots were heard. The suspicious man was located. Investigation determined that the man was a photographer, what appeared to be a gun was actually a camera with an extended lens attached.

Sunday, December 19

8:44 a.m. Trout Lake Road: Public Assistance. Caller reported that their white Ford Focus was stuck in a snowbank. About an hour later, a tow truck arrived to help them out.

11:21 a.m. West Highway 61: Animal Disturbance. Caller reported that a lynx had gotten stuck in a caged area and the caller wasn’t sure how to release the animal. A Conservation Officer was contacted; within an hour the animal had been released.

Monday, December 20

1:10 p.m. Creechville Road: Disturbance. Caller reported that there was a lot of noise over the past three days from a white trailer on property that was across the street from his home. Investigation determined that the noise was from a generator. Heating cables had been run by electricity for concrete that was supposed to be poured by Thursday (12/23). A new house would arrive on Monday (12/27) if all went well. Caller was very happy that the loud noise had ceased.

3:57 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, Rescue. 9-1-1 Caller reported that they had been stuck on the main chair lift for 15 minutes. Dispatch called Lutsen Ski Patrol and they reported that the chair lift was running again.
