Tuesday, August 31

4:08 p.m. Grand Marais: West Second Street, Animal lost. Woman called because she is missing a small white male
cat. He is wearing a pink collar with a jingle bell. His name is Dexter. He has been missing for five days. Dexter is an
outside cat but has never stayed away this long before. If found please call 218-387-3030, the non-emergency number at the Law Enforcement Center.
5:11 p.m. Grand Marais: North Broadway business, Public assistance. Caller reported that four Hispanic people
seemed to be looking for a bus to New York. They were members of a construction crew. Investigation determined
that they were just looking for information on when and where to catch a bus to Duluth. The AEOA bus driver told
them about the price of tickets and where to catch the bus to Duluth. The group was happy to get the information.
Translation was accomplished with a cell phone app.
8:26 p.m. Tofte: Good Neighbor Hill, Mary had a little horse. Two horses were hanging out at the school in Tofte;
they were eating grass. One horse was white, one horse was black and white. The owner was out looking for the
horses; a family member contacted her and told her the horses had gone to school. No assistance was required.

Wednesday, September 1

5:42 p.m. Devil Track Lake area: Public assistance requested. Caller needed help lifting a heavy TV. After their work
shift ended, a Deputy stopped by and helped the person move the heavy TV.

Saturday, September 4

12:07 p.m. Grand Marais: Eighth Avenue West, Public assistance. Caller was staying in the Rec Park and wondered
if they could drive their electric golf cart to the Putt’n Pets Mini Golf using the bike path. Caller was advised that the
path is only for bikes and pedestrians.

Sunday, September 5

1:23 a.m. (middle of the night) Grand Marais: West Third Street, Suspicious activity. Deputy saw kids running,
unknown what was going on. Spoke to one juvenile a few minutes later and advised him that he was out way past
curfew. The young man was heading to a friend’s house on Eighth Avenue West. That was confirmed. Spoke to a
parent about the situation later in the day.
5:07 p.m. Grand Marais: East Highway 61, Animal lost/found. Person came to LEC with an Australian Shephard dog
that was found near My Sister’s Place. They were unable to contact the owner by phone so they brought the dog to
the Sheriff ’s office. A possible local address was found for the owner. A Deputy brought the dog to that address, the
dog’s name was Cooper and it was happy to be home.
7:22 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Theft. A roommate left around 6:30p.m., possibly headed for South Dakota. They seemed
to have taken stuff that didn’t belong to them. Missing items included: food, Ipad with case, Apple Air Pods, video
game system, two guitars, a harmonica, three whistles, wooden spoons from Ireland, Digital camera Point and Shoot
DX 6490 in a waterproof case, Nintendo switch, shampoo and body wash, and over $1000. Suspect was still an employee when theft occurred. A black fanny pack with $60, a first aid kit, and a lodge radio was also missing. Suspect
has curly hair and usually walks with a walking stick or baseball bat, smokes out of an old wooden pipe. Suspect was
driving a blue van with an orange kayak on top and a red bike on the back. Van had Kentucky plates. Despite extensive county search, unable to locate suspect. Investigation ongoing.

Monday, September 6

5:16 p.m. West Highway 61: Suspicious activity. Caller reported that a vehicle matching the blue van description for
yesterday’s Gunflint Trail theft suspect was parked at Temperance River State Park. Investigation determined that it
was the correct vehicle and suspect. One adult male was arrested and booked into jail. The van was towed to a secure
area where it could be searched and inventoried. All evidence that was reported missing was removed from the
vehicle.
