Wednesday, August 11
11:52 a.m. Public Notice. Assisted with the wonderful
bike rodeo.
7:15 p.m. Grand Marais: Second Avenue West, Animal
disturbance. Caller reported that a bear has been visiting
their property and destroying the bird feeders. They had
lived here a long time and had never seen this kind of
behavior. Caller was advised that the bears are hungry
because of the dry weather conditions. The bird feeders
should be taken down for now, so the bears won’t be
attracted to the property.
7:39 p.m. Arrowhead Trail: Unknown trouble. Difficult 911 call, due to a bad connection. When caller was
contacted a short time later, they said they were bringing
someone to the Emergency Room who seemed to have
lost their memory of the whole day. Ambulance was not
needed, just directions to the Emergency Room.
Thursday, August 12
9:05 p.m. Grand Marais: Eleventh Avenue West: Animal
disturbance. Caller reported that a bear was in her front
yard in a tree, and she was unable to get into her house.
She made loud noises and honked the horn, but the bear
just looked at her and didn’t move. Caller stated that the
bear is high in the tree, about 12 feet from the ground,
and she is afraid the bear might fall. Conservation Officer
was contacted.
Saturday, August 14
3:29 a.m. Suspicious Activity. It was reported that someone tried to break into a cabin. Ten people were staying
in the cabin and the intruder woke them up. Suspect
appeared to be passed out on the back step. It looked like
he was still breathing. Investigation determined that the
suspect had no serious medical issues, he was just confused. He believed he had reached his own place.
7:53 p.m. Grand Marais: Eighth Avenue West, Disturbance. Caller reported that a car alarm had been going off
for the last hour. It was parked by the campground.
Sunday, August 15
9:06 a.m. Pike Lake Road: Vandalism reported. Graffiti
was spray painted with red paint on both sides of the
concrete bridge: “5/8/21” and “Always and forever, LLK
and LeBron James.” Nothing obscene was painted. County Highway department was contacted.
10:24 p.m. Grand Marais Rec Park: Animal disturbance.
Caller wanted to know what to do about a full-size bear
that had climbed a tree in the tent campsite area. The
bear was currently doing nothing, but it was making the
tent campers very nervous. The campers agreed to keep
food locked up and gave the bear space so it would come
down from the tree and move on its way. A Conservation
Officer was contacted.
Monday, August 16
West Highway 61 and Grand Marais Rec Park: Fire calls.
Campfires were reported and investigated. Parties did not
understand that there is an extreme fire danger situation
and fires are not allowed.
