Tuesday, July 13
6:39 p.m. Pancore Lake Road: Smoke in area. Caller reported that there was thick smoke in the area. They did
not see a plume of smoke, but the smoke was hurting
their eyes and they wanted to know what was going on.
Investigation determined that strong wind was blowing
smoke from the Canadian fires into Cook County.
10:23 p.m. Songbird Trail: Suspicious Activity. Caller
was with son in a tent near their vehicle. Suspicious
noises were coming from the vehicle area. Investigation
determined that it was a bear looking for food. The animal had banged against the vehicle, but had not gained
access. Claw marks were on the vehicle. Caller and son
spent the rest of the night at the AmericInn.
Wednesday, July 14
4:29 a.m. North Road: Animal Disturbance. Caller
reported that earlier this night, two pitbull dogs came to
the property and killed 11 rabbits, every rabbit that was
outside of its kennel. Other neighbors have had trouble with these dogs, too. Caller wanted to find out who
owned the dogs, because the dogs killed their breeder
rabbits and this was a huge loss. Investigation is ongoing.
10:26 a.m. Pincushion Overlook Trail area: Person lost/
found. Hiker called due to being lost in the multi-use
trail system. Their location was determined, and the
hiker decided to walk out to the south. Hiker promised
to call again if they could not find their way out of the
woods.
7:06 p.m. Lost dog spotted on hiking trail. This was a
mini pinscher that had the coloring of a German Shephard and was wearing a “Murphy” tag and neon orange
hunting harness. Dog got spooked and ran off. Arrowhead Animal Rescue was notified.
8:13 p.m. Cramer Road: Animal disturbance. Caller
reported that a cougar or mountain lion had just walked
through his yard.
Friday, July 16
2:15 p.m. West Highway 61: Theft reported. Items
were stolen from the church rummage sale collection,
including a flat back aluminum canoe, graphite oars, and
a traveling golf club case. The thief left some payment in
an envelope and a note at the church door.
Saturday, July 17
7:22 p.m. County Road 60: Vandalism. A small Trump
sign in the yard was spray painted with obscenities.
Nothing else in the yard was touched or damaged.
8:38 p.m. Grand Marais: West Second Street, Animal
disturbance. A small husky dog named “Jazebel” was
running around loose in the neighborhood. Friends
were looking after the dog, but Jazebel kept running free.
The dog’s owner was contacted and was out of town. The
owner made other arrangements for Jazebel.
