Tuesday, June 29

10:41 a.m. West Highway 61: Two Vehicle Accident with personal injury. One vehicle pulled out in front of another. All Airbags activated and two tows were needed. Ambulances transported three people to North Shore Health.

Wednesday, June 30

9:21 a.m. Grand Marais: Fifth Avenue West, Public assistance. Caller was frustrated by confusing construction signs that were meant to direct traffic. Caller had to back up quite a distance to get out of a bad situation.

9:30 a.m. Caribou Drive on Caribou Lake: Suspicious activity. Caller complained that there had been loud noises in the area for the past two days. Investigation revealed that rock crushing was happening in the Caribou pit. Also, Lake States was sawing and clearing under the power lines.

4:17 p.m. During thunderstorms, there was a major Power Outage throughout Grand Marais and Cook County. Grand Marais PUC reestablished power in twenty minutes. Arrowhead Electric determined that it was a transmission issue with one substation. Power was back up about four hours later.

8:19 p.m. Grand Marais: Artist Point area, unknown trouble. Family members were at the Tavern and one person walked off and headed toward Artist Point. The mom found her adult son’s shoes and socks but could not find him. Investigation determined that the son had left the area and he was walking home, up the trail. The son was transported back to town and reunited with his mom.

Thursday, July 1

1:41 p.m. Grand Marais: West Wisconsin Street. Four kids (ages 12-13) were attempting to rescue a seagull chick in Harbor Park. They were being swooped on and charged by the adult sea gulls and were backing their bikes out into the road to avoid the angry birds.

6:57 p.m. Grand Marais: West Highway 61, Animal disturbance. There were seagulls dive bombing people in town. Caller was referred to a Conservation Officer.

Saturday, July 3

11:05 a.m. Grand Marais: West Wisconsin Street, Animal disturbance. Caller wanted to know what she could do about a baby seagull that was on the ground outside the Heritage Post. She wanted to know if a fire truck could place it back on the roof in the nest, or what else could be done. Dispatch advised that seagulls are protected birds and we should not touch them. Caller was transferred to a Conservation Officer.

12:12 p.m. East Bearskin Lake: Property lost. Last fall, on October 11, 2020, a blue backpack with black straps and a black back panel with purple stitching was lost at the west parking/landing area or at the first portage going into Dunkin Lake. The backpack contains a Svea stove, Svea saw, small hatchet, cooking kit, rain. tarp and other items. 10:39 p.m. Grand Portage: Casino Drive, Civil Matter. Caller gave someone a vehicle that was in his name, expecting that person to make the ongoing loan payments. They were not making the payments. Caller was advised that this was a civil matter.
