Tuesday, June 15
8:41 a.m. Grand Marais: West First Street, Fraud/
Scam/ID. Woman reported that she received a call
from “Amazon” claiming that she had over $1000 taken
out of her Amazon account. No personal or financial
information was shared. Woman was advised to hang
up if they call again.
12:41 p.m. Airport Road: Attempt to locate pilot. A
pilot with an unknown number of passengers was
supposed to have landed by now; No cancelation
message was received. Pilot was contacted and found
to be grounded and home safe. He stated that he had
just talked with the FAA and wasn’t sure why his alarms
didn’t clear.
1:07 p.m. Grand Marais: Broadway Avenue,
Informational. A Fisheries survey would be conducted
tonight in the Grand Marais harbor. Caller was working
with the DNR and said there would be lots of lights and
generators, so they wanted to keep Law Enforcement
informed.
Wednesday, June 16
2:24 p.m. East Highway 61: Fraud/Scam/ID. Woman
reported a robo call. It was the “Minnesota Health
Department” with a message about COVID and how
you could make money by answering some questions.
Thursday, June 17
5:09 p.m. West Highway 61: Animal Disturbance. Caller
and her husband discovered they had a red squirrel in
their new propane furnace and were wondering who
could help with this situation. Conservation Officer was
not available.
9:15 p.m. Grand Marais: Public Assistance at the ER.
An 80-year-old man had eaten some bad food and was
getting cramps and experiencing weakness. He was
parked in a motorhome outside the ER and hoped that
someone could come out with a wheelchair and help
him. Dispatch contacted the ER staff and then stayed
on the line with the man until Nurses came from the
ER to help him.
Friday, June 18
1:37 p.m. West Highway 61: Animal Disturbance.
Woman called to complain about that “damn bear” that
keeps coming back and ruining her bird feeders and
flower beds and compost pile. The woman was advised
that she needed to put the bird feeders away and quit
with the compost pile as that was what was attracting
the bear. She refused to make any changes because she
loves her birds, and she wanted the bear to be shot.
5:23 p.m. County Road 60: Animal disturbance. Two
dogs, a golden retriever and a husky type dog (white
and black) were in the neighborhood. They were
friendly dogs with nylon collars, but no tags. Two hours
later, caller reported that the dogs belonged to a local
business and have been returned home. They may have
followed a hiker or something, the business was four
miles away from where the dogs were found.
Saturday, June 19
12:31 a.m. Caps Trail: Burglary in progress. Strangers
came down the driveway during the last half hour. Two
people were inside the house and garage, and a white
van was parked outside. Caller was reporting from
outside, about ten feet away in the trees. Caller said he
had a pistol in his truck. Dispatch advised him not to
attempt to get the pistol. The garage was not locked and
they went inside; they seemed to be looking for a place
to sleep. Investigation determined that the suspects
were at the wrong address; they were escorted to the
correct address.
8:42 Poplar Creek Drive: Checked hazard. When you
came down Lima Grade and took a right on Little
Ollie Road, about 100 yards in was a culvert that was
about to burst. There was a contract with the county
to maintain it, but water began flowing over the road
yesterday due to a beaver dam.
10:13 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Public Assistance. Caller
reported a lost pouch containing a wallet down on
the beach in town. Caller was having a hard time
determining exactly where she was located in town.
After a few minutes talking to Dispatch, it was
determined that she was in Grand Marais, Michigan,
not Grand Marais, Minnesota.
