Tuesday, May 25
11:10 a.m. Honeymoon Trail: Sound of gunshots. Caller reported that gunshots were heard in the past ten minutes coming from the public boat launch area on Christine Lake. Investigation found that four shotgun shells were at the boat landing. Caller thought it was illegal to shoot guns in the area. He was advised that it is legal for people to shoot guns outside the city limits: it just must be in a safe direction and a distance from any residence. People who want to shoot safely are advised to use gravel pits.
11:21 a.m. Honeymoon Trail: Welfare check. A friend had not heard from a man in four or five days, which was unusual. The man lived alone and the friend was concerned about him. A Deputy located the man and determined that he was okay.
1:25 p.m. East Highway 61: Judge Magney Trail. A woman was bitten by a dog while hiking the Judge Magney Trail. The woman was eager to confirm that the dog was up to date with its shots. The dog had been adopted as a rescue dog and had received rabies vaccination shots twice in 2020 in order to cross state lines.
6:30 p.m. Lindsog Road: Public Assistance. Two adults and a yellow lab dog went hiking, got a little lost and went too far. They came out on the Lindskog Road trail crossing instead of at the Pincushion Overlook parking lot. The Trail was too long and rugged to try to attempt to go back. Transportation was arranged and they were dropped off at their vehicle.
9:45 p.m. West Highway 61: Chimney fire. Upstairs Unit 39 had sparks coming out of the chimney. Fire Department evaluated the situation, took care of the fire, and cleared the scene about one hour later.
Thursday, May 27
11:35 a.m. Nickolay Lane: Theft. A mailbox and its post were stolen. 5:58 p.m. Tamarack Trail: Fraud/Scam/Id theft. A phone call about a CenturyLink router was received. Banking information was shared and the caller claimed that $550 would be coming to the woman from CenturyLink. The money showed up in the account as $5550 and the woman advised them that they had put too much into the account. When contacted, CenturyLink said that they were not part of this transaction.
7:07 p.m. County Road 7: Animal disturbance. Two dogs were running loose and got into the area where the cows were tending their newborn calves. The dogs spooked the cows and then retreated to the lower part of the field. All the neighbors were very upset: the dog owners were out of town and dealing with a medical emergency, the cow owners were upset because the mama and baby cows were traumatized by the dogs.
Saturday, May 29
1:14 p.m. County Road 48: Damage to parked vehicle. Caller discovered that their vehicle window was broken, driver side front. Investigation determined that the window had been broken by a rock that was launched by a lawn mower.
5:31 p.m. Hawk Lane: Animal lost/found. Caller reported that a cat had been with them for a few days. The animal was mostly white but had brown and black spots on his head and tail.
6:28 p.m. Grand Marais: West Second Street. A baby fawn was found in the backyard near a fence. It seemed like it was healthy. A Conservation Officer was contacted.
Sunday, May 30
5:17 p.m. Multiple reports of vandalism and damage to vehicles in west end gravel pits. Front end loaders and other machines were damaged with rocks and gunshots. Investigation is ongoing.
7:21 p.m. Miscellaneous fire call: dog needed rescue. A dog had fallen and ended up 30 feet below the hiking trail and was barking and moving around on a rocky outcropping. It seemed unhurt. Conditions were not safe for a rescue due to wet rocks and loss of daylight. The dog was left for the night but was rescued in the morning. The dog was safe and reunited with owner.
