Wednesday, May 12
4:21 p.m. Grand Marais: West Highway 61: Theft. A
local garden shop reported that someone was stealing
their inventory of trees and shrubs from the back of
their property. Ten trees and one shrub had been stolen
with a total value of $937. Surveillance camera has been
installed.
Friday, May 14
11:39 a.m. Grand Marais: Fourth Avenue East, Garbage
problem. People were throwing their household garbage
into the dumpster at the County Highway property.
Names of suspects were found in the garbage, so the
people were contacted and received warnings because
it is illegal to do this. Surveillance cameras have been
installed.
12:37 p.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth Street, Juvenile
trouble. A high school student who does not have a
driver’s license was seen driving away from school.
Minnesota State Patrol was notified, attempts to locate
were not successful.
Saturday, May 15
11:25 a.m. West Highway 61: Damage to property. It
was reported that a group of five men trashed Cut Log
campsite and left garbage everywhere, including burnt
beer cans and liquor bottles. They were expected to be
at the Devil Track Campground tonight and then move
onto Durfee Creek or Kimball Creek the next night.
Enforcement action and information was passed on to
the Forest Service.
Sunday, May 16
8:41 a.m. Grand Marais: Humphrey’s Circle, Animal
lost. Caller reported that their cat had gone missing, a
white cat with black markings on his face that answers
to Forest or Kitty. Forest left the house yesterday
and usually comes back in the morning but had not
returned. A little while later, the caller reported that
Forest had found his way home.
Monday, May 17
8:45 a.m. Irish Creek Road: Theft. Possible theft of gravel
from the county gravel pit at Irish Creek was being
investigated.
Tuesday, May 18
11:51a.m. Fox Ridge: Suspicious activity. Caller reported
that last night when they returned to their cabin, there
was a vehicle in the driveway and a man was walking
around the property. This man was a stranger and
got hostile with the caller, but the man did leave the
property. There was no damage to the property or
anything missing, the caller just wanted to report the
incident.
Wednesday, May 19
11:22 a.m. Bethany Drive: Fraud/Scam/ID. Caller
received two emails that seemed to be from a person that
he knew, but the emails had the wrong email address for
that person. The emails weren’t really from that person.
The first email asked him if he was well. The second
email asked him to purchase some gift cards because
they were recovering from open heart surgery and
needed to get some things. The caller did not respond to
the second email.
1:32 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Property lost/found. Caller
reported that he found a couple expensive fishing rods
and then they brought the rods to the Law Enforcement
Center. Two days later, the owner of the poles came to
the lobby and described with detail the poles and where
he had accidently left them by the lake. Fishing poles
were returned to the owner.
