Thursday, May 6
12:39 p.m. Christine Point Road: Public assistance.
Caller was concerned that she had a problem last year
getting a deputy up to their cabin. To get to Christine
Point Road, you take the Caribou Trail to Clara Lake
Road and then to the Carlson Trail to access Christine
Point Road. Investigation determined that the road was
more of a walking path then a road, very narrow and not
well maintained. There was no turning off, just backing
up. Notes were made.
2:41 p.m. West Highway 61: Utility line problems. There
was a brush fire next to an electrical box. The fire was
put out and investigation determined that a curious
squirrel had probably caused the fire; the dead squirrel
was found next to the telephone pole.
5:03 p.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth Street, Animal
disturbance. Man came to the LEC to report that he
had picked up a dog that was running loose near his
house because he was worried the dog would get hit in
traffic. The dog was a German Shepherd with a metal
choker collar, but no tags. Lost dog photos were posted
on Facebook; the owner of the dog called. The dog had
taken off after a rabbit when they lost her. Owner and
dog were reunited.
Friday, May 7
3:02 p.m. East Highway 61: Fraud/Scam/ID. Person
reported they received two scam calls today claiming
to be from Social Security, one was a message on an
answering machine and the other was a robot call. The
robot call stated illegal activity was going to interfere
with the person receiving their Social Security benefits.
Dispatch shared the phone number for the Office of the
Inspector General fraud hotline per the Social Security
fraud website. That number is 1-800-269-0271.
Saturday, May 7
7:17 a.m. Grand Marais: North Broadway, Animal lost.
Female black and white cat named Mister ran away
and the owner was very concerned. Photo posted on
Facebook page. About two hours later, Mister found her
way home.
Sunday, May 8
2:53 p.m. Assist another Agency. Caller at Harriet Lake
reported a large plume of smoke in the Isabella area.
Dispatch advised the caller that USFS had scheduled a
controlled burn in that area and then transferred the
caller to Lake County.
Monday, May 9
2:25 p.m. Maple Hill Drive: Smoke in the area was
spotted by the Beaver (USFS plane). Property owner was
burning a large brush pile in their back yard and had not
gotten a burn permit. Officer issued a warning and the
owner put out the fire.
2:55 p.m. Grand Marais: East Fifth Street, utility
problems. Transformer blew between 1107 and 1207.
Investigation determined that another squirrel (now
dead) had probably caused the problem.
3:55 p.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth Street, Damage to
property. Caller reported that within the last hour, the
sliding door off of their bedroom was shot by a BB gun.
The outer pane was shattered, but the inner pane of glass
was still intact. There is a bluff behind the house and
the shots probably came from up there. Investigation
occurred and evidence was gathered. Unable to locate
anyone in the area, no suspects at this time.
