Wednesday, April 21
3:33 p.m. East Highway 61: Animals lost/found. A
golden retriever and a black and white border collie were
running loose, back and forth across the road. The dogs
had collars, but no tags. Investigation determined owner
and address. The dogs were very friendly and were
transported home in a squad car.
8:54 p.m. Grand Marais: North Broadway, Neighbor
trouble. A neighbor was served papers today concerning
a property line dispute. Now that neighbor is yelling,
swearing, and playing loud music. The caller and
his family did not feel safe and were looking to get a
restraining order. A Deputy visited the agitated neighbor
and calmed things down.
Friday, April 23
2:30 p.m. Cascade Beach Road: Trespass situation.
Private landowner called to report that people were
on the beach claiming it was public land, not private.
Parties trespassing were informed that private property
extends to the water’s edge.
4:10 p.m. Grand Marais: First Avenue East, abandoned
vehicle. Caller stated that there was an abandoned
vehicle in their parking lot; the vehicle did not belong to
any of their guests. Since it was on private property, the
property owner was responsible for any towing service.
As the towing service began to move the vehicle, a
teenager got out of the vehicle. The teenager was able to
drive the vehicle out of the parking lot.
5:01 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Public assistance. Caller
wanted to know what the rules and restrictions were for
target shooting practice in the area. All questions were
answered.
Sunday, April 25
2:53 p.m. Morgan Road: Possible trespass situation.
Property owner reported that someone had used their
fire pit and brought along some chairs. They also stored a
couch on the side of a shed and stored some chairs inside
the shed. No suspects. It was recommended that the
owner put up some game surveillance cameras and post
no trespassing signs. It turned out that it was a family
member, a teenager and friends who were responsible
for the furniture and use of the fire pit. Mystery solved.
Tuesday, April 27
9:07 a.m. County Road 14: Animal disturbance. Caller
reported that his neighbor’s dogs were chasing deer and
the caller was very angry about this. The caller wanted to
shoot the dogs (but he didn’t). This has been a problem
for three years. The issue was referred to a Conservation
Officer.
10:39 a.m. County Road 7: Animal Disturbance. Caller
reported that two pigs ran away from her home. She
wasn’t sure which direction they headed, but was
confident that they would stay together. Caller was able
to locate the pigs and they were secured in their pen,
safe and sound. Later the same day, the pigs went on
another adventure and met a neighbor that loves pigs;
he was going to feed them so they would hang around.
The owner retrieved the pigs again, even though she was
upset with them for running away.
12:28 p.m. Old Shore Road: Suspicious activity. A
woman reported that she was walking on the beach
with her dog at “Passion Pit” and a man came out of the
woods and started yelling at her. The man said she was
on private property. He took her picture and was very
upset. The woman had parked on what she believed was
public property and walked down the beach to the east.
She was quite upset by the man’s behavior.
Wednesday, April 28
7:21 a.m. Grand Marais: South Broadway at the
harbor, Animal disturbance. Report of a coyote on the
breakwater wall. The animal was pretty mangey and it
eventually ran up the East Bay beach and headed north
through town.
9:39 a.m. County Road 6: Fraud/Scam/ID. Money
($40,000) was wired to a design consultant in
Minneapolis through Wells Fargo. The money transfer
never got to the designer. Both banks were working
to resolve the issue. Caller believed that the email was
hacked.
Sunday, May 2
11:58 a.m. West Highway 61: Cascade Beach Road under
the bridge, Property lost/found. Caller went fishing in
the creek and found an urn filled with ashes sitting in
the creek. The urn was brought to the Law Enforcement
Center (LEC).
10:53 a.m. Sawbill Trail: Property lost/found. Caller
left Sawbill Canoe Outfitters on April 29 and got to the
portage Scoop-Cherokee. They went into camp about 3
p.m. and came out today around 1 p.m. They discovered
that their canoe and paddles were gone. The caller
suspects that a cleaning volunteer didn’t realize they were
camping and took the canoe and paddles. Registration is
in the front of the canoe with the name Gregory Wales.
