Tuesday, March 9
11:54 a.m. Suspicious Activity on the Superior Hiking
Trail. Hiker reported that two aircraft were flying
low over him and shooting: one black helicopter and
one white prop plane. The hiker was feeling unsafe.
Investigation determined that it was moose survey
work; the biologists were trying to tag animals for
research purposes.
Wednesday, March 10
5:36 a.m. Mile Creek Road: Welfare check requested.
Caller reported that their neighbor’s car alarm had
been going on and off all night along with flashing
lights. The alarm would go off every ten minutes, then
stop for a few minutes and start up again. Caller was
concerned that her neighbor was having some trouble.
Investigation determined that the neighbor was fine and
they had not been aware of the car alarm going off all
night.
12:34 p.m. West Deer Yard Lake Road: Public assistance.
A family member who owned a cabin had passed away
and relatives wanted to check on the cabin. Dispatch
advised them to talk to a lawyer to get permission
before visiting the property. A deputy advised that the
property would be checked on and that family members
should stay off the property until the paperwork is in
order.
Thursday, March 11
9:01 a.m. Grand Marais: First Avenue East, Public
assistance. A blood mobile employee had left a Kindle in
their hotel room and the front desk person was trying to
get hold of them. A deputy was available to pick up the
item and bring it to the owner.
2:01 p.m. Devil Track Road: Medical assistance
requested. Female, age 26, recovering from two broken
bones, had a bad fall. Transported to North Shore
Health.
4:50 p.m. Grand Marais: First Avenue East, Medical
assistance requested. Male, age 87, fell to the ground
and was unable to get back up. His speech was slurred
and he was unable to walk on his own. He was
transported to North Shore Health.
Friday, March 12
0:58 a.m. Unknown trouble: 911 calls occurred with
crackly noises and an open line that kept disconnecting.
Location was determined to be a lodge/resort. Site
investigation revealed that all was quiet and there were
no signs of distress at any of the units or outside on the
grounds.
10:40 a.m. West Highway 61: Traffic detail. One vehicle
was stopped for illegal passing. Cars slowed and stopped
for pedestrians.
3:31 p.m. East Highway 61: Suspicious activity reported.
A family member borrowed a car and something
happened with the vehicle at the international border.
The car owner did not want the car released from
the border until he was able to pick it up himself. But
the vehicle was released to the family member and a
licensed driver before the owner could pick it up, so the
car owner wanted to report the vehicle as stolen.
