Law Enforcement briefs. When court proceedings are
complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes
a complete accounting of names and penalties in its
Matters of Record.


Friday, June 4

12:44 a.m., Grand Marais: Ohio man, 41, cited for
speeding.
2:12 a.m., Tofte: Caller said he heard heavy equipment
running and people yelling, and also heard the
F-bomb drop a couple times, possibly coming from the
Springdale Road. A deputy checked but was unable to
find anyone in the area.
3:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that she and
her husband were in an accident and will need a tow.
Maple Hill First Responders took them to the hospital to
be checked out.
4:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Michigan man, 24, cited for
speeding.
8:33 p.m., Tofte: Bluefin reported that there is a mangy
wolf hanging around near guest services and by the
AmericInn, and is scaring some of the guests. Game
warden notified, but the caller was told that with the
wolf being put back on the protected list, not even COs
can shoot or trap them.
Saturday, June 5

12:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost wallet.
1:29 p.m., Lutsen: Injured deer reported near the Sea
Villas.
2:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Illinois man cited for speeding.
3:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted with looking
for a lost bike.
Sunday, June 6

6:06 a.m., Tofte: Report of a reckless Canadian driver
going 100 mph east of Tofte.
2:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Rosemount man, 31, cited for
speeding.
4:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint at Twin
Lakes lot. The driver was reportedly parked so that
people fishing there have to park up on the road. The
driver was spoken to.
4:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Illinois man, 53, cited for
speeding.
5:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Texas woman, 55, cited for
speeding.
9:18 p.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage man arrested
on a Scott County warrant.
10:18 p.m., Grand Portage: Florida man, 30, arrested for
DWI, possession of a small amount of marijuana, open
bottle and allowing open bottle.
Monday, June 7

6:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Power outage at Cascade Beach
Road.
9:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and injured near
2041 E. Highway 61.
11:47 a.m., Tofte: Deputy requested to speak with a
concerned party about an incident that happened a few
nights ago at a graduation party. A car was keyed.
9:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint that smoke on Fifth
Avenue East smelled like garbage, not campfire smoke.
11:04 p.m., Schroeder: Caller expressed concern about
an elderly man she saw walking near the Temperance
River path.
11:20 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy assisted a motorist
who ran out of gas.
Tuesday, June 8

9:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off.
Wednesday, June 9

7:20 a.m., Hovland: Power outage.
1:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of medications
from a residence.
3:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of speeding KGM
trucks on County Road 6.

3:56 p.m., Grand Portage: Canadian man, 51, cited for
possession of a small amount of marijuana after being
stopped by Customs.
5:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that someone ran over cable support on a power pole.
Thursday, June 10

12:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Canadian woman, 47, cited
for failing to stop at a stop sign.
8:30 a.m., Lutsen: Lutsen man arrested for assault of two
children, ages 13 and 15.
8:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to investigate an
abandoned vehicle parked on First Street for a couple of
weeks.
11:21 a.m., Grand Marais: Canadian man, 22, arrested
for possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug
paraphernalia.
6:30 p.m., Grand Marais: An SUV that went into the
ditch about 20 miles up the Trail was towed. The driver
was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
8:55 p.m., Lutsen: A very friendly Husky named
“Randall” was found wandering a resort. The Canadian
owner was contacted.
Friday, June 11

7:51 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that she
had some people over last night, and now her place is
trashed, medication is missing, and $40 cash is gone
from her cabinet.
11:55 a.m., Grad Marais: Fire and heavy smoke reported
at the North Shore Laundromat.
7:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Two out-of-state men cited for
speeding.
8:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off of $58.49
reported by Holiday.
10:23 p.m., Grand Portage: Hit-and-run reported to a
vehicle parked at Mineral Center. A deputy resolved the
issue.
Saturday, June 12

8:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint of dirt bikes and
ATVs exhibition driving on West County Road 14.
8:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Forks man, 58, cited for
no proof of insurance.
8:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about dirt bikes and
ATVs traveling County Road 60 at high rates of speed.
9:12 p.m., Grand Portage: Report that a 5-year-old was
walking on the highway near the Trading Post.
Sunday, June 13

2:16 a.m., Grand Marais: Disturbance reported at Devil
Track Campground. Several possibly intoxicated people
were shouting and yelling, and there appeared to be a
campfire out on a boat in the lake. A deputy spoke with
about 10 people who were involved and gave them a
warning.
2:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 21, arrested
and booked into jail for DUI.
5:22 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested at the
Trading Post where an older man pooped right at the
front door and wandered off to the campground.
9:57 a.m., Grand Marais: A Bible was found on the side
of the road and brought in to the Law Enforcement
Center.
11:46 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported loss of a brown
hard-shell case containing cash and credit cards
1:51 p.m., Grand Marais: A Grand Marais woman was
issued a citation for no valid driver’s license and no proof
of insurance after she drove to the Law Enforcement
Center to visit her son.
4:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Outboard motor reported
stolen off the deck of a trailer in the Rec Park sometime
last night.
7:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 18, cited
for underage drinking.
11:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 31, cited
for speeding.
