Cook County Law Enforcement briefs


It is the policy of the Cook County News-Herald to withhold the identities of individuals in Cook County Law Enforcement briefs. When court proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes a complete accounting of names and penalties in its Matters of Record.

Tuesday, March 2
12:57 p.m. Stevens Road: Informational. Grand Portage
Trust Lands wanted to let Law Enforcement know that
they would be doing moose survey work with lowflying aircraft. There would also be some captures in the
Hovland and Grand Portage area. A detection plane and
helicopter would be used.
Wednesday, March 3
2:59 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, abandoned vehicle in
parking area. A black Nissan Sentra had been parked
in a trailhead area for at least two weeks. Investigation
determined that the property is privately owned so the
vehicle will have to be removed by the property owner.
6:00 p.m. Public Assistance: Animal lost. Search manager
checked in to see if Rowdy the yellow lab lost on the west
end of the county had been sighted again. There were
no reports of additional sightings; Rowdy had been seen
twice after going missing. 8900 fliers were distributed on
the west end of Cook County and the east end of Lake
County.
Thursday, March 4
6:00 p.m. The Grade: Public assistance. USFS staff were
out doing owl survey work tonight along The Grade.
Person expected to be back in town by 11:00 p.m. and
would call the LEC upon return.
Friday, March 5
2:52 p.m. ATV/Snowmobile accident on trail. Two
snowmobile accident, no injuries, parties refused medical
assistance. The sleds collided on the snowmobile trail
just pass the Two Island parking lot on the small section
where the trail leaves Ball Club Road. Photos were taken
of damage at the scene, report written.
3:58 p.m. and 6:28 p.m. Bow Lake Road and Six Hundred
Road: Two vehicles were stuck in snow off the roadways.
First vehicle was out of the ditch within one hour. Second
vehicle was stuck for three hours, a groomer was needed
for tow truck to reach scene. Everyone was safe and
sound.
Saturday, March 6
12:04 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, Medical assistance
requested. Two people: one female, age 12, with possible
pelvic injury, and one male, age 51, with right-side
pain (upper and lower quadrants). Both people were
transported to North Shore Health.
2:55 p.m. Grand Marais: South Broadway, Informational.
Caller reported that she and a friend would be doing
some winter swimming starting in the East Bay and
heading out around Artist Point.
Sunday, March 7
1:48 a.m. Lutsen: Pine Tree Drive, Structure fire.
Electrical fire in a guest cabin with smoke and visible
flames at the joists. Group of ten people got out of the
cabin, no injuries reported. About two hours later, fire
was contained and crews were mopping up. Owner was
notified and advised that power would not be restored.
No deputies were able to respond to this fire incident due
to a felony level domestic situation that occurred at the
same time.
1:33 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, Attempt to locate and
check welfare. Caller stated that his friend had not shown
up for work at the ski hill which was very unusual.
Caller had talked to his friend on the phone the previous
evening. Investigation determined that his friend was in
the hospital.
4:59 p.m. Crank 911 call: Sounded like a baby playing
with the phone, kids were talking to their mom as
they were getting into a car and into car seats. Mom
came on the phone and apologized, one of the kids had
accidentally butt dialed 911. There was no emergency.
Everyone was fine.
