Tuesday, February 23
2:08 a.m. Mile Creek Road: Snowmobile complaint.
Gathering of snowmobilers became very loud and
boisterous, possibly involving a lot of drinking. Several
different callers wanted things to quiet down and were
concerned about the people involved. Upon investigation,
a snowmobiler did take off and tried to outrun the police.
Their snowmobile crashed and the suspect fled on foot.
Family helped with the search, out of concern for the
suspect. Eventually, the man was taken into custody and
transported to the county jail.
4:56 p.m. East Highway 61: Medical assistance requested.
Female, age 26, broke her leg after jumping down five
feet from the rocks along the Lake Superior shoreline.
Transported to North Shore Health.
Wednesday, February 24
1:06 a.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth Street: Neighbor
complaint. Caller reported that they heard two gunshots
fired inside the apartment building; the shots were about
30 seconds apart. Investigation determined that it was not
gunshots, but a slamming door that was heard.
2:11 p.m. Grand Marais: South Broadway, informational.
Three people were planning to swim in the Grand Marais
harbor for about an hour this afternoon.
7:10 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Vehicle assistance requested. A
vehicle slid into the ditch off the Gunflint Trail about one
half mile south of Trout Lake Road. No injuries reported,
they just needed a tow. Help was on the way.
Thursday, February 25
8:53 a.m. Received 911 call with one ring hang up.
Dispatch called the number back and discovered that the
person was having issues with their new Apple watch.
There was no emergency.
10:33 a.m. Gunflint Trail LEC: ongoing investigation.
Caller was concerned that the Snowmobile Association
was planning to raffle off a snowmobile without clear
ownership.
Caller was going to look into small claims court or an
injunction to keep the sled from being sold or given away
before the ownership issue was resolved.
1:16 p.m. West Highway 61: Damage to property. Caller
reported that someone had broken into a building on
his property. The door was pried open and kicked, but
nothing was stolen.
Friday, February 26
10:46 a.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill Road, Medical assistance
requested. Two injured parties, two ambulances
requested. Both persons transported to North Shore
Health. One person was a male, age 29, with a right
shoulder injury and broken humerus.
3:44 p.m. Gunflint Trail: George Washington Pines.
Skiing incident and lost phone. A phone was found on
the ski trails and brought to the LEC. The owner of the
phone had fallen while skiing and the phone fell out of
her pocket. The phone and owner were reunited at the
LEC office.
7:31 p.m. Six Hundred Road: Vehicle in the ditch. A
Jeep with four people in it was stuck on the Six Hundred
Road, a road that was not plowed. The four people
decided to stay with the Jeep vehicle and wait for a tow.
They were stuck between Forest Road 1210 and Two
Island Road. The vehicle and all parties were brought out
to the Cramer Road, safe and sound. The people were
guests at a west end resort and were attempting to go to
the Trestle Pine for dinner; they were following directions
from their GPS unit.
Saturday, February 27
3:08 p.m. Walter Road, Fraud/Scam reported. Caller
reported that they received an email claiming that a
hacker had accessed their computer and the hacker
demanded that $1500 be paid or personal information
would be stolen. The email was deleted; an anti-virus
software confirmed that everything was okay. No
information was shared or lost.
3:29 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Hungry Jack Road, assisted
another agency. A man was driving a snowmobile under
the influence of drugs. He was stopped and transported
to the county jail.
