Wednesday, January 20
6:26 a.m. East Highway
61: Medical assistance.
Woman, age 85,
experienced shortness
of breath and slurring of
words. A friend called
for help. Woman was
transported to North Shore
Health.
9:20 a.m. East Highway
61: Parking problem.
Vehicle parked in a city
lot with heavy front end
damage; radiator was on
the ground. Owner struck
a deer by the Temperance
River area, drove to Grand
Marais, and parked it at
the point. Vehicle had over
350,000 miles on it and
was a total loss.
Thursday, January 21
12:03 a.m. (three minutes
after midnight): Extensive
power outage reported all
over the east end of the
county. Five hours twenty
minutes later, power was
restored.
11:38 a.m. Grand Marais:
Public assistance. Caller
had some issues with dogs
roaming around in the
rec park off-leash and a
good distance away from
their owners. He had that
experience at Kadunce,
Pincushion, and other
areas of the county too. He
was advised that Grand
Marais is the only area
that has a leash law in
the county; other parks
and trails have their own
rules which are usually
posted in the parking
areas. Caller suggested
that if he came across a
dog that threatened him,
he would pepper spray the
dog. Dispatcher advised
against this action and
said that it would probably
cause more trouble. Caller
was advised to contact the
Sheriff ’s office if he felt
threatened.
2:27 p.m. Caribou
Trail: Fraud/Scam/ID.
Two Lutsen Township
supervisors were contacted
to verify whether or not
another person was a
notary and also what was
the expiration date of their
notary commission. This
all seemed very strange
and there was concern
that someone from South
Dakota was trying to create
a false notary commission
in the person’s name.
Friday, January 22
9:12 a.m. Grand Marais:
West Highway 61: An
injured wolf was seen
limping along on the
sidewalk. Conservation
Officer contacted.
11:23 a.m. Grand
Marais: West Fifth Street,
Informational. Caller
reported that a low flying
plane will be out doing
animal survey work today,
west of town and along
County Road 7.
1:00 p.m. Bally Creek
Road: Damage to property.
Somebody ripped the
sign down for the parking
fee and taped shut the
collection box. Value of
sign was $25. Nobody took
the money that was still in
the box.
1:12 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill
Road, Medical assistance.
Woman, age 24, was
conscious and breathing,
but may have suffered a
broken arm. Transported
to North Shore Health.
2:01 p.m. North Pike
Lake Road: Fraud/Scam/
ID. Caller reported that
he had received a couple
calls claiming to be from
Amazon. They said he was
getting a delivery and/
or there was a bill for X
amount of dollars on his
account and if it wasn’t
his order, he should press
1. When he pressed 1,
a person would request
financial information.
So the caller would hang
up. Caller stated that he
does not have an Amazon
account. No personal or
financial information was
lost.
2:20 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill
Road, Medical assistance.
Woman, age 64, with
possible boot top fracture
on left leg, conscious and
breathing. Transported to
North Shore Health.
Sunday, January 24,
9:17 a.m. West Highway
61: Motor Vehicle accident.
Vehicle rolled over near
the intersection of County
Road 6 and County Road
7. Three people involved;
no injuries reported.
Vehicle slid into ditch and
rolled. Air bags deployed
and windshield was
cracked. Towing service
contacted.
3:44 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill
Road, Medical assistance.
Woman, age 32, with
possible boot top fracture
to right leg. Transported to
North Shore Health.
