Cook County Law Enforcement briefs


It is the policy of the Cook County News-Herald to withhold the identities of individuals in Cook County Law Enforcement briefs. When court proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes a complete accounting of names and penalties in its Matters of Record.

Tuesday, January 5
10:37 a.m. East Highway 61: Fraud/Scam reported. Caller
had hung up on a phone call claiming to be from the
Social Security Administration. They were not given
any information. Caller was advised to be vigilant about
anyone asking for money and that the right thing to do is
hang up on them and report it.
11:59 a.m. West Highway 61: Motor vehicle accident with
property damage. West end business owner reported that
a truck hauling a ten foot trailer filled with cardboard
was traveling from Tofte to Grand Marais. The trailer
flipped and ended up in the ditch just west of Ski Hill
Road. State Patrol responded.
2:11 p.m. East Highway 61: Fraud/Scam calls reported.
Person received three more scam calls today. One scam
involved the claim that their older computer company
was going out of business and there was a refund
available if they just filled out a form.
9:51 p.m. County Road 7: Public assistance. Officer
came across two vehicles blocking the road on County
Road 7. One vehicle was stalled and the other was trying
to jump-start the stalled vehicle. The working vehicle
pushed the stalled vehicle all the way home.
Wednesday, January 6
12:19 p.m. West Rosebush Lane: Informational. Blasting
was done right before dark.
3:56 p.m. County Road 7: Animal disturbance. Caller
reported that they saw a wolf hide at the junction of
Lookout Road and Pike Lake Road. It was a fresh wolf
hide with nothing attached to it. Caller was uncertain
about wolf protections that are still in place.
6:44 p.m. County Road 14: Dog lost. Brown Border
Collie dog named Waco ran off and has not returned.
Dog has collar with his name and a phone number on it.
Requested call if located. No update available.
Thursday, January 7
9:15 a.m. South Caps Trail: Fraud/Scam reported. Person
got a call stating that his grandson got injured and they
needed to send money. Person hung up on the scam
caller.
3:50 p.m. County Road 7: Public Assistance. Person
believed she was getting text messages from anarchist
ultra-right wing groups about overthrowing the
government. Person thought there were specific threats
to certain government officials such as Vice President
Pence and certain senators. Person was advised to
contact the FBI with this information and also contact
the Secret Service for specific threats against the Vice
President. Person was given the necessary phone
numbers and asked to report back.
10:23 p.m. Grand Marais: East Fifth Street, Dog lost. A
small dog went missing three days ago. The dog is a black
and white Chihuahua, about 9 pounds in weight. Last
seen around the north area of Grand Marais; the dog
doesn’t normally get out. No update available.
Friday, January 8
2:48 p.m. Grand Marais: West Fourth Street, Dog lost/
found. A brown Chihauhau named Pedro got outside
and went missing. He was wearing a dark green harness
and weighed 5-6 pounds. Pedro returned home about
thirty minutes later.
