Tuesday, December 15
11:04 p.m. Grand Marais:
North Broadway, Animal lost/
found. Owner called to report
that their black and white
cat named “Mister” had not
returned home and wondered
if anyone reported finding
the cat. When a similar cat
ended up in the city pound a
few days later, Dispatch called
to see if Mister had returned
home. Mister was home, safe
and sound. Photos of the cat
in the pound were posted on
Facebook.
Wednesday, December 16
12:34 a.m. South Gunflint
Lake: Utility disruption.
Caller reported that their
internet and phone service
were down. Caller from
County Road 7 reported
the same problem.
Dispatch called True North
(Arrowhead Electric);
maintenance work was being
done from midnight until 5
a.m. An email had been sent
to all subscribers.
9:39 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
Welfare Check requested.
Caller was concerned about
some friends that came up
from Texas this spring to get
away from the COVID-19
coronavirus. Caller had not
been able to reach them.
After some discussion, it was
determined that their friends
were in Cook, Minnesota,
not Cook County. Caller
was given contact info for St.
Louis County.
Thursday, December 17
10:29 a.m. Hovland: Stonegate
Road, Animal disturbance.
Neighbors feel threatened
by a German Shepard dog in
the area that seems to charge
them aggressively when they
are walking on the road. They
are worried that the dog will
attack and bite someone. It
is a rescue dog that owners
are trying to retrain and the
owners said they would keep
the dog on a leash. They
invited the neighbors to
contact them directly.
2:58 p.m. Cramer Road:
Assist other agency. Caller
reported that a bridge that
was stolen from Lake County
was currently in the yard at a
particular location.
Friday, December 18
7:51 p.m. Grand Marais:
Second Avenue West,
Structure fire. Caller reported
that their neighbor’s shed was
on fire. The shed was close to
the house, fully engulfed in
flames. All parties were out of
the house, but the shed was
also close to a propane tank
and the neighbor’s house.
Once first responders were on
the scene, things were under
control in a few minutes,
except for a lot of smoke that
was moving down the hill
into town.
Sunday, December 20
10:40 a.m. Grand Marais:
West Second Street, Utility
disruption. Possible water
pipe burst. Water was
shooting out of a crack by
the gutter near the caller’s
water supply pipe connection.
Dispatch contacted Grand
Marais PUC staff.
11:00 a.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill
Road, Medical assistance
requested. Female, age 29,
may have suffered a broken
wrist. Ski Patrol responded.
Monday, December 21
10:11 a.m. Grand Portage:
Upper Road, possible theft.
Caller reported that someone
was trying to sell cabinets
and a dishwasher from their
property on the Grand Marais
Sell and Swap site (Facebook).
Investigation was ongoing.
10:31 a.m. Grand Marais:
West Second Street, Fraud/
Scam/ID. Caller reported
that someone called saying
they were going to take
money out of her account
for a subscription. Caller did
not give up any personal or
financial information. Bank
account will be monitored as
a precaution.
12:10 p.m. Lutsen: Ski Hill
Road, Medical assistance
requested. Male, age 18, may
have suffered a hip and/or
femur injury. Transported to
North Shore Health.
12:21 p.m. Caribou Trail and
West Highway 61: Vehicle
accident with possible
personal injury. Vehicle ran
off the road and hit a pole.
Five people were in the
vehicle; no signs of major
injuries. No ambulance
transport required. Parties
were given a ride to the
Lutsen Fire Hall where they
waited for a ride from Silver
Bay. State Patrol took care of
the accident report.
1:05 p.m. Mile O Pine: Fraud/
Scam/ID. Caller reported
email scam from neighbor’s
email saying that they needed
to get gifts for their niece.
Caller contacted neighbor
who appeared to send the
email, but the neighbor didn’t
know anything about it. No
information was shared or
items lost.
4:16 p.m. Grand Marais: West
Fifth Street. Caller reported
that her fire alarm was going
off but there was no fire. She
was just cleaning her oven.
She wanted to make sure that
the fire department did not
get paged out.
