Tuesday, November 24
5:02 p.m. West Highway
61: Medical. Female, in
her twenties, had been
exposed to COVID-19
and was experiencing
numbness in her arms and
legs. She had recently lost
her sense of taste. She was
also vomiting and having
difficulty breathing. The
woman was transported to
North Shore Health.
Wednesday, November 25
5:45 a.m. Gunflint Trail:
Public assistance. A
woman came to the Law
Enforcement Center
(LEC) because she had
been turned away at the
Canadian border due to
a paperwork issue. Staff
at the border faxed the
proper paperwork for
the woman to the LEC.
The woman was able to
complete the paperwork
and return to Canada.
9:38 a.m. East Highway
61: Dog lost/found. A
German Shepard with
darker fur named “Shay”
was wandering around
the east end of town, even
going into traffic. A nearby
family discovered he was a
friendly dog and their kids
played with Shay outdoors.
The dog’s photo was posted
on Facebook. The owner
was contacted using a
phone number listed on
the dog’s collar. Dog and
owner were reunited.
Sunday, November 29
3:43 p.m. East Wisconsin
Street, Informational.
Caller reported that a sign
had blown down and a
window had broken out
from the east side of a
commercial building. They
wanted to let the business
owner know because the
business was currently
closed.
Tuesday, December 1
2:16 p.m. West Highway
61: Animal Disturbance.
Caller found a fluffy
orange and white cat,
posted a photo of the
animal on Facebook, and
looked after the animal for
a while. Deputy accepted
custody of the cat and
brought it to the city
pound. Animal Advocates
were contacted and the cat
owner was asked to pick
up the cat from the city
pound.
3:44 p.m. Devil Track Lake:
Wesley Lane, neighbor
complaint. Caller reported
that their neighbor was
burning plastic in a fire pit.
Caller tried to talk to the
neighbor about this, but
was unable to locate them.
Investigation determined
that something was
smoldering in the fire pit;
smells were of burnt paper
and cardboard. Neighbor
was advised of the
complaint, denied burning
anything but paper and
cardboard, and promised
to be more careful in the
future.
Wednesday, December 2
9:14 a.m. West Highway
61: Suspicious Activity,
possible theft. Caller
reported that someone
had broken into a metal
shipping container on their
property; the container
was found with the door
open. Unknown when

this might have happened;
no tracks at scene. Items
missing were small tools
and miscellaneous valves,
nothing of high value.
3:07 p.m. East Highway
61: Fraud/Scam/ID. Caller
reported that yesterday
morning around 10:30
a.m., a computer hacker
demanded a ransom of
$300 on her personal
computer. The notice
included a Microsoft logo.
Caller clicked on the help
icon and was about to give
the hackers permission
to access her computer,
when a friend stopped
her. The computer was
shut down as the hackers
were taking control. No
money was lost, but all
passwords were changed
and bank accounts will be
monitored.
3:15 p.m. Airport Road:
Public assistance. Caller
wondered if a deputy could
check to see if a plane was
up at the airport. The plane
was a small piper lowwing single engine plane,
white with red, unknown
occupants. Caller needed
verification that it had
landed; it was suppose to
land 30 minutes ago when
caller had last contact
with the pilot. Sometimes
the pilots put their planes
away in a hangar and lock
up, forgetting to cancel
their flight plan. Contact
was made with the pilot;
everything was fine.
Friday, December 4
3:41 p.m. North Pike Lake
Road: Animal disturbance.
The kids let the dogs out;
a Siberian Huskey named
Odin and a long-haired
white German Shepard
named Elsa were running
free. Dog owner wanted
to share contact info with
anyone that reported
seeing the dogs. A short
time later, Odin and Elsa
were home, safe and
sound.
Saturday, December 5
1:17 p.m. East Highway 61:
Structure fire. A detached
garage was on fire. No
one was in the building
and the owner was at the
scene. The garage was fully
engulfed by the fire and
was a total loss.
6:10 p.m. Tofte: West
Highway 61. Caller
reported that the Tofte Fire
crew will be burning some
cars for training tonight
and it may cause some
smoke. Fire trucks will
be on the scene. Training
exercise was completed by
9 p.m.
10:02 p.m. Grand Marais:
East Highway 61 and
Gunflint Trail area. People
were issued citations
for disorderly conduct
and underage drinking.
Another person was issued
a citation for social host
ordinance violation. Two
people went to the hospital
for medical attention.
Sunday, December 6
10:02 a.m. County Road 7:
Animal disturbance. Caller
reported that some animals
were running loose. The
goats had escaped their
pen on County Road 7,
but were soon herded
back into the pen, safe and
sound.
