activity. Woman reported that she keeps
getting phone calls where the phone rings
once, she answers, and then someone
hangs up. This has been going on for five

contact her local phone company and
see if they can pull the number from the
records, and then block it.
8:06 a.m. Grand Marais: West Fifth
Street, Animal disturbance. Bear in the
area. Animal was directed away from the
school and then wandered down the alley
behind the Evangelical Free Church. Bear
was not causing any problems, just being
a bear.
3:36 p.m. Grand Marais: Fifth Ave West
at Fifth Street, Public assistance. Caller
requested that some kind of signage be
put up to warn people that the fourway stop has been removed from this
intersection. The avenue traffic (north/
south) has the right-of-way again. Caller
was heading north and got the stink-eye
from an east/west driver because the
caller did not stop at the intersection.

Caller had just reached their cabin and
discovered that someone had taken a

motor, Ryobi brand push lawnmower,
hatchet, hammock, a Mongoose fat-tire
mountain bike, and a black wheel barrow.
3:32 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Suspicious
activity. Caller observed a large amount of
water pouring down alongside the road.
The water seemed to be coming from
a valve or faucet. City water staff were

had forgotten about the manual water
pump running and never shut it off. They
took care of it right away.

political signs, one Black Lives Matter

Saturday, October 17
12:50 a.m. County Road 7: Animal
disturbance. Caller shot into the ground
to scare a bear away. The bear ran into
the woods, but kept coming back. Caller
wanted to know if he could shoot the
bear. A conservation officer informed the
caller that he could not shoot the bear
just because it was on the deck eating
birdseed. Investigation determined that
the caller had bird feeders and a 40 pound
bag of birdseed on his deck. There was
also an unlocked freezer with meat on his
deck. Caller was advised to remove all the
bird feeders, and large bag of bird seed
from the deck. And to put a strong lock
on the freezer.
12:26 p.m. Grand Marais: Seventh Avenue
West, Child lost/found. Caller reported
that there was a little boy walking down
the middle of the street, crying for his
mom and asking where she was; no one
else was around. The little boy was about
five years old and the caller brought him
into her house. Within a few minutes,
the boy’s mom was located and the dad
brought their child back home. The child
had snuck out of the house and wandered
down the street.

OHM complaint. Six to eight ATVs were
heading west on the non-motorized part
of the Gitchi Gami Trail at the bottom of
the ski hill.

that their phone is broken and when they
shut it down, it calls 911. There was no
emergency, but the caller wanted to thank
all of the officers and 911 folks for the
good work that they do.
10:59 p.m. The Grade: Unknown trouble.
A hiker posted on Facebook that someone
should call 911 and send them to where

vehicle was transported by a local towing
